What is it ?
I am speculating, but it could mean Kundendienst-Heft-Nummer (Kundendienst-Heft translates into maintenance booklet, and Nummer= number).

Do maintenance books have their own number that can be linked back to a car?
I only ask, NOT to take "matching numbers" to a new level, but because there is a number stamped onto the second page (back side of the first page) of the maintenance book for my 1973E that I have never been able to understand. at the bottom of the page is all the usual copyright etc stuff and the printing date etc, but in the middle, looking like it has been hand stamped with a number stamping machine, is No. 208389
do others have this stamped number on the back side of the first page of their maintenance book?
I have only seen (copies or scans of) a kardex with the KD-Häft-nr box filled out in handwriting. However as the kardex is a warranty card, and the maintenance book is a record of servicing of the car I can see a reason to link the two.

Yes, its Kundendienst-Heftnummer > KD Heft-nr.
Kunden > clients
dienst > service
Heft > booklet
nummer > number
Registry member No.773
Thanks Karim, that is good to know.

Thanks for posting.
I wonder if there is any relationship between that number, assuming it does link to the maintenance book, (do you have a maintenance book for it by the way Tomlu) and the total sequential number of maintenance books produced (presumably for 911, 912 and later 914). With that low number on your Kardex, yours presumably would have to be an early 66 car for a match with total production to come anywhere close
Similarly with my high number (208389) stamped on the maintenance book assuming that those numbers are related, see attached photo of it, even adding in all the 912's and 914's produced to that time (June 1973) it is hard to see how total production could have reached that number. So maybe there is no relationship to the total number of cars produced
another possible relationship could be the last 4 numbers of mine could be related to the production number in that model year. The number on my maintenance book is close to the last 4 numbers in my production number.
However if others post the numbers on their maintenance books (assuming that is what mine is) a pattern may be able to be established, especially if numbers from some earlier cars are listed
