In these times, with so many nice old 911s returning to Germany, it's interesting to see a 'mini wave' of imports of e30 tourings from Germany:

I've always loved the e30 touring. I was sorely tempted to buy one when living in Germany, but ended up with an Italian-market Volvo 960 wagon with a 16-valve 2.0 liter turbocharged engine making 200HP stock, and perhaps 220HP and a bit more turbo lag in my car. The 16V head was reportedly designed by Porsche.

I recall reading somewhere the odd hatch back shape allowed BMW to avoid retooling the taillights and other aspects of the body, while providing just enough room for a case of beer to pass through.

a BMW engeneer(from that era) told me it was done for that taillight tooling reason ..the official version was to get more torsion resistance...the touring was not built to carry beer ..... two golf bags was the target load...had a 325 years ago...i loved it

I looked for an e30 Touring for years --- but all I could come up with were Japanese-market cars that'd been shipped to Canada . . . + almost always automatics

Nice to see people bring these over, now. Never know . . .

    BtW --- that 325 sold for $14k . . . and I'd use it for my dogs

    PS + check-out the e36. Only a few years to go . . . .

    PPS Have I ever mentioned how I like green . . . .

I never much liked the e36, but I'd make an exception for a green Alpina wagon.

I have never regretted selling a car - I'm always ready to move on - but I do miss my e28 Alpina B9 3.5.

Picked up my Big Brother from the PO today it's e34 M5 touring BL01411.
Happy like a child - been searching 3 years for a proper one with good maintenance history that isn't daytona violet or avus blau.

No issues with loading stuff so far - but I'm confident it will be a much loved car.

Hmm, I LOVED my 1989 Touring. 325i 170hp, sunroof, tinted windows. leather seats., BBS, 5 speed. This car had a soul.
I had it w 160'000 km and drove it in 6 years until 350'000km. All over Europe. It never broke down.
Then sold it to my friend as I needed a family car for the snow. (I got an 2001 Audi 2.7l 250hp allroad, air suspension, another favorite car of mine.).
My friend then drove the E30 until 400'000km. It looked still like good and was well cared. He sold it recently to a young guy who restores the car as new. Last time I heard the engine was on 420'000km, case never opened.

Tourings' whole 'personality' changes without the roof rack

Strange to see one on an Alpina
