Thread: Michelin XWX or Vredstein Sprint Classic

Michelin XWX or Vredstein Sprint Classic

Rudy will be getting a new pair of shoes soon, and I'm trying to decide between staying with Vredstein Sprint Classics again, or switching to a set of Michelin XWX's.

I've been very pleased with the Sprint Classics that have been on the car for the past four years and traveled approximately 25,000 miles. Although they still have plenty of tread, they're over four years old now.

Other than looking more period correct than the Vredsteins, are there any other reasons to spend a lot more money and go with Michelins?

One reason for not switching that comes to mind is... if I stay with the Vredsteins I only have to buy four new since the spare Vredstein has never been on the ground.

    Thoughts?
    Cheers!

I'm kinda in the same boat

My Vreds 've looked/worked fine --- maybe 20k mi-worth? . . . over the last four years, too. Zero complaints. And --- unless someone look very closely at the sidewalls . . . no one 'd prolly notice the difference

    But --- those Michelins? . . .

    = SEXY

I can spot 'em across a parking lot
    (Here's a set o' 'chubbies' on a '69 E, as seen @ The Phoenix Show)

And if I wasn't driving more, then I'd prolly spring for the Michelins. But right now, w/ >3/4 of the tread left, I'll use-up the Vreds first. Good tire . . .

    . . . and I won't cry when I have to throw them away

It's just kind of tough to justify spending a lot more for the Michelins to get "the look".

However, I suppose another way to look at is....if I spend the $1700 for five Michelins, that's $1065 more than I'd spend on four Vredsteins....or only $213 per year spread over five years. And....Considering the amount of money I've already poured into the car over the past ten years...what's another $1065?

    Decisions....decisions...

Where does one go for the best price on the Michelin XWX?

    I don't think I could find them for $1,700.

XZX is not the same tire as xwx's at all.

And since we've decided it's only $200 an ownership year more could you please buy the XWX's and tell us how you feel they compare to the Sprint Classics. This seems to be an endless discussion without a resolution and I'd love to hear some empirical information.

I have owned XWX's in a car that was 1000 pounds heavier then the 911, I didn't love them but it could be an apples and oranges thing. And I'm open to try them again some day.
