68 911L, rear deck lid

I have just purchased the above car and have a question regarding the decklid/ grille combination. Looking for comparable builds on either side of 11805299 vin.
Mine has the decklid with the open middle, but the grille is the twin bar in the middle kind. Is there a vin number when the 68 went to the open decklid?

Hi Rusty,

Here's the link with the serial numbers for the transition from the bar to no bar engine lids. It looks like SNs before 11805122 have the bar. I'm not sure when the twin center bar grill switched over.

SN 11805286 looks to have the three bar grill.

I have a 10/67 68 Normale with split deck lid. It was my understanding the change to the open grill occurred around Nov/Dec production. There were approximately 450 1968 U.S. 911L produced VINs beginning at 11805001 and ending at 11805449 which would place your car on the back side of the 68 production. I would say that your car should have an open style deck lid.

Were there cars made like this - with the late deck lid and the early grill? My 68 has open deck lid and the later 3 bar grill, as do the 2 68's my buddy has. I have seen an early '68 with the early grill, but it also had the early deck lid.

i have '68 L #11805386. The grill looks split with 6 vertical bars.
