    There may be hope yet

When picking up parts at the dealer today I saw this new 991. Love this vibrant yellow, not a special order color I was told. In the past the GT3's got some nice colors, the new Targa show car was a nice blue.
Is it possible colors are making a comeback?

Lets hope so... every time I go to my dealer I am completely uninspired by the lack of colour... silver, white, black; compared with the glorious colours of the past, they are boring and mundane indeed...

You and me both. On Facebook, our local Porsche Centre posted a very highly spec'd 997 Turbo S that went deep into the custom options. Except it's silver. You spend $200K on a car and can't tick the "paint to sample" box? I guess I can understand that some people want to "fly under the radar" but there's plenty of colours you can choose that aren't bright yellow or arrest me red. It just shows a certain lack of creativity to me.

Of course, my car is Tangerine, so I'm about as far from "flying under the radar" as one gets.

Agreed. You can order it badge delete.

I was speaking with my salesman at Porsche about lack of color options. He said it is very difficult these days for Porsche to offer multiple colors like back in the old days. Each color has to be tested and certified at great expense, and it has to be done for each model. Just because it passes on the Boxter doesn't mean they don't have to go through the whole process on the 911.... insane. He told me that you can still order a paint to sample, but it hardly ever gets approved. If you have a Jelly bean car, cherish it.

Well, that's depressing news. While I don't see myself ordering a new Porsche anytime soon, I always assumed if I did so I would spring for the 'paint to sample' option and order one of the classic, non-metallic colors. Like chartreuse.

It allows the mechanic something to read as he disassembles the backend to change the airfilter
