No need to register. If new to you, you do need to transfer title.

What Bob said. Plus... If you register you have to insure (technically... Many drivers seem to ignore this with impunity). And you don't want to wait to title until your restoration is complete and you find out there's a problem and you don't really own the car.

make sense. I'm assuming you guys registered as "classic auto" since "antique" has limited use?

Nope, registered as antique. Rules are going to or coming from an event, going to or returning from service, or test drive related to service. I think that just about covers everything.

Me too. Plus antique is cheap... $50 for 5 years and no state inspection required.

Can you have a special tag on an antique registered car ? I have acquired tag 73 RSL and obviously want to use this on my RS and retire my delaware plate ...

Many of us use year of manufacture plates. These must meet inspection criteria for condition and the numbers must not be in use. If you could find a YOM vanity plate that you liked you could register on that.

In 2013 they stopped allowing model year plates due to the issue of new white/black letter plates. I think the only option is to purchase the antique plate from the DMV.
