    WTB: '73 Sport Seats

I knew that the seats that came with the '73T project I purchased were not correct due to chrome recliners (they turned out to be for a '69), but I was surprised when I received the CoA info today indicating that the car was ordered with Sport Seats. This new piece of information raises the budget for the seats significantly, but I do plan to put sport seats back in the car.

So, what is the current asking price for a pair of Recaro Sport S seats and mounting hardware? If somebody has a pair of these seats for sale, can you send me a PM with details?

I have to weigh the price of Recaros against a pair of new reproduction seats from GTS Classics.

    Thanks,
    Frank

The other thing that is unique with the 73 sport seats, is the double locker base. This was a one year fitment, thus brings more cash. You can use a 72 (or 70, 71) base, but they only have a single lock. As for pricing, the double locker bases probably go for about $2,000 and the seats $3,500 to $7,000 depending on condition. If you have to have the seats rebuilt, plan on $2,500 with shipping and materials.

I paid quite a bit more for a newly rebuilt by Tony pair.
I don't have any particular use for them, but they are getting very expensive since if you have a RS these are the seats, and most RS's either only came with one or in many cases no sport seats yet everyone wants a pair now.

Me too I'm looking for a PAIR of Recaro Sport for my early MY73 911.

I need the ONE locker base.
I have to restore them completely so I don't care about the material or color they are now....but they need to be complete of everything! (base and slider included)

(two locker base was introduced in february/march 1973)

    Olin, Rower;
Thanks for the price check. Based on some recent prices I've been able to find, I assume the prices you listed were for the pair and not each? I was both happy and terrified when I learned that my car originally had sport seats. Happy, because I really like the sport seats but did not want to install them if they were not correct for the car. Terrified, because now I knew that I was obligated to install them, and thus pay the price that goes along with them.

    Spacezorro,
Thanks for CL link. I called and left a message, but the ad was posted 13 days ago, so I'm not too optimistic. I know people in the area, so I can arrange for local pickup if necessary.

    Pirulero,
Since my car is coupe #270, I assume it would be an early production '73 and thus use the single locker. Thanks, that might allow me to save a little money .

Frank, That Sport Seat on the CL link looks to be a '68 SWB Sport Seat and not correct for your car.

    Nickb4,

Thanks for checking on this - I am still learning the nuances of the early 911s (I know '74-'89 much better). I thought the '68s did not have headrests, or was that '67?

A pair is north of $10k with bases in any condition you would want. Restored, I think higher.

I thought double lockers were introduced in October 1972.
At least I recall reading a post from Eric about that some years ago, and that's consistent with what I thought I knew about the RS market.

    Here's Eric's (soterik) post:

"The seats and brackets are "generally" the same from 69 to 73. The "heavy" bottom brackets with sliders integrated into the bottom brackets started in 1969. With the most obvious construction differences coming in October of 1972 with the introduction of a cross bar in the bottom brackets to allow a second "finger" to catch the slider. This is commonly referred to as a double locker, and is only on the 73 seats. Note however, that given the introduction in October of 72, that early 73's wouldn't have had this feature. Other changes include the 72 and later seats having a different seat belt receiver to accomodate the electric seat belt warning system. Also, there were 2 different types of headrests in 1973, one being a flat bottom, and the other being the Peanut shape."

The headrest difference I am told is whether the seats were in vinyl or in leather.
