SWB Barn finds - help with 912 VIN and teaser :)

Greetings everyone!

It's been a good week here and wanted to ask for a bit of help from the community, as well as tease you a bit until we get all of our ducks in a row After a wait which seemed would never come to an end we finally picked up a few short wheel base cars and brought them home this week.

My direct question for this post is this: One of the cars we picked up is a '66 912, VIN number 353058. What is puzzling is the fact that all of my documentation and technical books show that production of '66 912's, made in 1966 list VIN #'s as 351971 to 353000. Then is lists '66 912's made in 1967 as VIN #'s 354971 to 355601.

I'm certain this is just some sort of technical glitch and a simple explanation will take care of it. But how can our VIN fall in between these two ranges?

Model year and year constructed overlap, that's where I think the confusion comes from?

Beautiful! I knew there would be an easy explanation - I've just been using the old Porsche technical manuals which I guess are not as accurate as you would hope

That list is for the 912 registry, I don't believe they made 912's in '71~
