never saw these beefore in an early 911

A friend of mine is restoring a very early 911 Coupe, Ser. # 300816 to be specific, in other words, a car built in 1965 and a '65 my car. My friend, the owner of this automobile has a Kardex for the car which was generated after Jürgen Barth was contacted.

My friend has more than 4 decades of 911 experience, including many full bare-metal restorations & dozens of 'builds'. When the stripp-down of this car began in earnest recently, he noticed the approx. 1/4" dia. bent wire hooks in the front trunk compartment. There is a total of six (6) of these "hooks" in the trunk, and after a lot of looking, philosphysing, thinking, speculating and jawing about this, there is a consensus that these are definitely factory-installed & painted pieces, not aftermarket add-ons. The finish, undercaoting and texture, etc. all look to be ex-Zuffenhausen.

There are three per side, two on the inside of the front piece below the latch-panel, 2 on the inside of the fenderwell and two more, aft of the top strut-mounting point on the re-inforced dome portion of the front fender wells. PLEASE SEE PHOTOS.

The obvious question, has anyone ever seen these in a 9i11. We're all at a loss and have no explanation. Looks like these hooks are intended to be used with a stretchy nylon net, just like Porsche themselves used in later years in 911s, 944s and 928s, as opposed to leather straps, since if these 'hooks' were meant for straps, they presumably would have used the luggage shelf-type strap lugs.

I would think if anyone can casually reel off a knowledgable answer and illuminate us all it would be a member of this board.

Thanks for any information, links, photos, or anything leading to solving the mystery.

Do you have the original trunk carpet pieces and if so does it have 'factory looking' slots in it to allow the hooks to poke through?

Never seen them before but hold down strap fittings look to be the obvious answer especially if the carpet is modified.
