    Helmet Recomendations

    Hey all,

I'm in the market for a new helmet. I'm looking to spend ~$500-$700, and thought some of you might be able to give me some recommendations based on real-world experience. I like Arai helmets, they're made well, and the GP-6S looks like it's right in my target price-range. Any thoughts on this model, or maybe some of the offerings from Arai or Bell? Maybe even Stilo?

Thanks for any and all input.

Personaly I ve always used Bell Mag 4 RS or similiar. Open face. In an enclosed car I consider them most suitable for me. My recent one has the HANS posts as I bought a HANS last year.

Make sure it has HANS whatever you go with.

HANS has just become mandatory across just about all motorsport competition here in Australia as of this year. I imagine it would be same over there?

Can't go wrong with Arai.... just about the best there is if you are going to spend the money. I run a Joe Rocket helmet, but I'm cheap.

Try the name brands and see what feels comfortable for you, see if you can borrow a friends is even better. I had a Stilo for a while but by the end of a race it would feel like my head was about to explode. Made the last couple of laps hard to concentrate!

Now have a Bell with Hans pegs. Also have an Arai that I've had for quite a while while is comfy as well.

I use an Impact brand helmet. This company was formed by Simpson after he sold Simpson. Impact is the only American made helmet. I did not feel comfortable putting a Chinese helmet on my nogen. It is a shame Bell helmets are made in China!! Look into Impact.

Best starting point there is. Although the cm or non-metric sizings are sort of consistent, the shape of the helmet is important and you can only do so much with a ball hammer to the inside padding.

I's also recommend lightness to reduce fatigue and although I personally absolutely would never recommend an open face helmet, if you're in a closed car, then buy a helmet made for that such as the Arai GP5W.

    Cheers,
