    Should I trade? 1961 356b T5 Aetna Blue PROJECT~

    Good morning everyone,

I am selling a car and the individual who is interested in the car is mostly into 74+ 911's, but has a 1961 356b T5 he is offering me and am trying to figure out a fair value for it. It is a ROUGH car - borderline parts car as someone began restoring the car, never finished it, and now it looks like some of the rust repair needs rust repair - YIKES! Essentially looks like just about the entire front end was rebuilt, plus needs a LOT more work and rust still runs rampant throughout the car...

OK, the good news is that although in pieces it is believed to be a complete car with numbers matching engine (in pieces) and matching tranny~ Additionally it looks like it was originally Aetna Blue which seems to be a somewhat unique color. Here are a few pictures, would love to hear some opinions on this - is it worth getting? They are asking $15K~ which seems like a decent deal for a numbers matching car in todays market, but still high IMHO - opinions??

    Thanks!
    J

Were you looking for a project or were you trying to sell a car?

If you were looking for a project there are better candidates.

Everyone is spot on. The T-5 B Coupe is at the very bottom of the pecking order/value for a 356. If you hired a quality restoration shop to restore, the investment would far exceed the value. Unless there is emotion attached to this puppy, it definitely doesn't make economic sense to restore this one.

Thank you everyone for the input!!! I actually work at a small restoration shop so definitely know it is a lot of work, but may be a bit too much work This would be something I throw in my basement at home and tinker with on the side, but I'm afraid if it was left alone for to long it may just rot away to nothing! I'm still going to go check the car out, being a numbers matching car perhaps one day it will be worth restoring, or maybe just pick it up as a parts car if I can get it for the right price~

Thanks again for the advice, i'll keep you posted!
