Recent purchase 1972 911S 9112300314 Former IMSA CASC History.

Well it has been an eventful week. I have been working well into the night getting my 71T ready for Hershey. Plus I just want to drive it as
the weather has just broke here. A few days ago I got a call in regards to a 911 race car that was coming up for sale. So began a hectic week
getting even more crazy. So I will start at the beginning

9112300314 started life in Europe(from what I can gather) and was imported into North America sometime in the early to mid 80's. The car was
already race prepped when it entered Canada. Sometime after importation the car was seen by driver/film maker John Stoneman as it sat in a garage looking like a
tired race car. He purchased the car and with sponsorship from Kodak began prepping the car for an upcoming IMSA GTU season. Work was extensive as I have
a large file folder of invoices from the likes Fiorano Racing which now is well known for their GT3 Cup cars they campaign. The motor was replaced with a 2.7
unit and built for the upcoming season. Suspension was a coilover set up that I have yet to identify. Brakes are Turbo or 928s rears (I am not sure)
and up front Wilwood superlite 2's. I will get back to modifications later. At some point John lost his FIA or whatever the governing body was licence due to health issues.
This left the car in limbo for years. In 1994 the car was sold to his friend Jim Lee and used very sparingly as a track car until 1998. Health issues kept Jim from
really using the car. I confirmed this as the engine hours read 15 since the motor was refreshed when John took delivery in 94.

Now onto the motor. The motor is built to a 2.8 and compression is 12.1. The list of work is extensive sorry for the lack of details. I will post more info as I sift through the paper work.
Everything is on hand written sales orders so it is a bit difficult to decode.

The cars body work has changed from long nose to a box flared IMSA fiber glass monster. When Jim took the wheel he converted it to a RSR style and that is where it sits today. Electrical ad cosmetically it needs attention. This is my dilemma Do I refresh it back to the IMSA car that it wanted to be or bring it back to a more original Long hood. Originally I was looking into building another hotrod but I don't think this is the car to do that with. So I am unsure if I should work on it or pass it on to someone. I'm not in any rush as race season is here and building takes a back seat until the winter.

Here are the details on this 72s The trunk vin is covered by the cage but the vin aluminium tag is present as well as the production date matches. Car also has ownership papers.

Thanks for any insight or suggestions.

    Cheers
    John

What usage, what variation on the pursuit of happiness you choose, is how you'll build it. Which way is cool?

I love old race cars with proper history. No brainer for me, back to IMSA spec - consistent with the log book.

    Congratulations!
I have looked again into these two codes (424 427) but none meaningful for 1972, I'm afraid.
I'd revert back to historically correct IMSA configuration, I'm not sure that it makes so much sense to restore it as it came out from the factory.

    Enjoy!

Thanks guys, I do not have the current log book as the car was not passed to Jim with it. I will
see what I can dig up from the CASC as well as speaking to John Stoneman. Before I received the
car I did get a brief history from him. He was going off memory.

I have a 1971 - 1973 options book showing 427 as "rear bumper protection" the photo shows a car with a stainless steel muffler protector so i am not sure if is that or not

    Ok,
I had a chance to go over the car a little this weekend. I also attached some of the paperwork
and a copy of what the car looked like in it's racing days compared to how it sits now.
From what I can gather the last full motor build took place in 94 and since then has had a total of 15 hrs.
After sifting through a ton of paper work I thought these notes here worth a look.
