    If you want to know if paint is original - measure the thickness with a paint mic, no guess work needed, beautiful car GLWS

    Phil a paint gauge shouldn't be used to determine original paint. I'm sure we all remember the seller who touted his car as original paint and he invited us all to run a paint gauge over it to prove it. It turned out the car had been repainted and the paint gauge proved nothing. It's a used car tool for detecting areas of thicker paint from prior body repairs. I call it a fools tool. Just my .02

    what if the car was dipped and then repainted? its only really useful if someone one scuffed and sprayed a car.

    My experience with a high quality ultrasonic gage was spot on. The theory is factory uses a thinner coat of paint than a body shop can spray, so even a bare metal re-spray will measure different than factory paint, maybe's it all BS I'm no expert. Sorry for crashing someone's for sale thread with this.

    I must jump in if i may. The 73 911 T from SFSportscars is beautifull, and i must say its a duplicate of mine. I wont bore you with the details but here goes. 1973.5 911 T Coupe 2.4 CIS 19K original miles from new and 100% original i owner from new Silver with black interior.
