So what is the big deal with H1 headlights?

I like the look of the H1's but what did they come on? What year? Since I am new to the 911 world just curious.

    Thanks

    Good question

My '70 Euro came w/ them. And I've seen photos of H1s on cars up to ~'71 --- but after that? . . . not sure. I've never seen them on '73s, though, so . . .

Maybe some of our European members an chime in here?

All three fully restored `73 RS`s at the Southern Cal event, housed @ European Collectibles had them...all had the smoothe glass versions

I had them on a 67S. I liked the look and the fact you can adjust the high and low beam separate from each other. I also like the light they put out because they had nice lens that was separate from the filament. All in all a really nice head light that I think got replace because it was so expensive and complicated for what it did, that is also the appeal.
I have a 68S now with the US lights on it that I will keep because they were OEM but I do miss the H1's.

Also, H1s can wired so that the low beams AND high beams come on when you use the high beams. A nice trick if you need more light at night.

My understanding is the H1 was introduced in 1968 and only for the 911S. It then became the standard lamp thru 1972 on ROW cars until the H4 was introduced for 1973.

Ahhhh the sixties... I envision myself one early Saturday morning wearing plaid shorts, black shoes with white socks smoking a cigarette heading to the hardware store to buy a bag of nails.
SWB cars are an acquired taste however once acquired theirs no turning back.

There is a sort of headlight "clean" glass to look to them. Compare look at them side by side other types of headlights and it becomes very obvious.

Sooooo......the H4's I bought for my '72 are the wrong headlights? I needed H1's to be correct? Just want to clarify before I sell off my H4's. Thanks for the info in advance.
