    the Quail Motorcycle Gathering

Yeah, yeah, they're hardly early 911s, but what better way to spend a glorious, sunny spring Saturday than the Quail Motorcycle Gathering when nothing else of immediate interest to an old lover of vintage sporting transportation devices is happening the same day. This event has matured nicely, has settled very comfortably into its venue, the price has remained reasonable when you consider the excellent lunch which is included in the price of admission, and the crowds are always manageable because the number of tickets sold is limited. The days celebrities, here pictured during a group discussion, were Wayne Rainey, ( in wheelchair ) Kenny Roberts ( in straw hat and yellow jacket ) and Mert Lawill, ( on right in orange shirt ) who is also a regular vendor / exhibitor.

Below a random collection of shots taken yesterday that run the entire gamut of machines exhibited and range from the sublime to the preposterous, from all different eras, and a final image, snapped through a dirty windshield on the way home, which yet again lends credence to an old complaint about Bay area traffic..........doesn't matter how much horsepower you bring to the party, in a traffic jam ( a freeway construction zone yesterday ) we're all equal.

    Enjoy
