On a 68L US car what would the outside thermometer gauge look like?
Car has white gauges of course. Would the VDO outside thermometer gauge have green numerics?
I have not seen one with white numerics. COA says car had one but it is missing.
Thanks.

Here's the little I know or recall on the exterior thermometers:
The exterior only thermometer was first introduced in the 911/912 Accessory Catalog as # 9168. It was for an outside only 60mm gauge in a Fahrenheit single needle configuration. Part number 644.741.601.07
Item # 9169 part number 644.731.601.06 was for the exterior only thermometer 60mm in Celsius. The Fahrenheit one was made for the U.S. market. They are not as rare as the original 356 gauges, but original 911/912 60 mm working gauges are becoming very collectable. Once that gas tip leaks or is broken they cannot be repaired.
If you want to add a thermometer in your car, It's more cost effective sometimes to get a single needle reproduction available from North Hollywood Speedo that has an electrical sensor tip, or by using an early 911/912 VDO or MotoMeter 60mm gauge.
I had an original VDO exterior thermometer that I had refaced from C to F to use in my 356 T-6 B but decided not to drill a hole in my dash. I also didn't care to install it in my 73.5 T. It was an original working gas tip one in the original box.

They jumped on my NOS Motometer outside temp gauge on Pelican because the zeroes had the wrong font, elongated versus round as in this photo.
what was the year range for the in-dash variety?

Are these clamps available from a supplier?
If not I could make some more if there is a need.

I can't find anything on the last year of the thermometer but the first I know of is in the September 1964 356C Accessories Brochure reproduced in Miller & Merritt Porsche: Brochures and Sales Literature--A Source Book, 1948-1965
- 9167 Outside-Inside thermometer
- 9168 Outside-Inside thermometer next to the clock in the middle of the instrument panel.
In the February 1961 356B Accessories Brochure 9168 was the anti-theft gear shift lock.

I had some of the green faces made with the correct numerals in Celcius to restore some of my gauges. Still have some left
