What is the sound deadening material inside doors?

Always assumed it was the same as the rubberised underseal but don’t like to assume

None of the doors on my 70, 72 or 73 had anything like the underbody goop, but rather a rectangular sheet of stick on material about the thickness of cardboard. Not having a door panel off at the moment, I'd say the dimension of that sheet (applied centered in the door toward the bottom) is about 6X18 inches. If the car was Ziebarted back in the day, then the door would have received what you are referencing - but still not as thick as the underside and wheel wells.

Here is the stuff you described. It almost looks like some kind of asbestos laden material. The dimensions of the stuff in my car is about 20 X 9. It is very random and probably every car is different.
