Gas filler door to body seal

I put the seal in then the filler tube and the next day I look and it's popped out again. The groove seems smaller than the flange it's supposed to go over. Anyone have a solution?
I did a search and found nothing.

Is the metal snap ring in place inside the filler area? Perhaps without it in place it’s allowing the bottom to pull out?

The only way I could get mine to stay was to install the boot by pulling it up through the frunk. Instead of pushing it down through the fender opening, start in the frunk and pull it up towards the fender opening. Good luck

I mounted it to the fender first but didn't rotate it. It sounds like I'll have to take the snap ring out and start over. Do you put the filler neck in before the snap ring? That seems like the filler neck would be in the way.

    Scott, I'll try that also.

I don't see any way to first install the ring...it will give the boot virtually no flexibility to push, squeez or pull into the opening, and it is the ring that will secure the boot by the ring's tension pushing outward against the opening. I've done this three times and never look forward to it. I use two needle nose vice grips to pull the ends of the ring together and that compresses it enough to get it into the boot's ring channel. Anyway, that's how I do it..

I put the filler seal in first, then the snap ring.
Have had no problem with the seal popping out of it's groove.
These cars are all so different and hand built, wouldn't be a surprise when this kind of stuff isn't so straight forward.

I did what Bradford did. It worked well.
Anyone know what the 20 mm hole is for?
