    This 1973.5 T was acquired from the garage of its original owner parked since the early eighties. The original windshield still has the Glenview Village parking stickers on it dated 1983. The mileage of 56,100 is being represented as actual. This Porsche still retains is Original tool kit, jack and spare wheel as well as its original owners manual and title. The original purchase invoice shows the purchase price $9246.00 minus a $200 cash deposit from Porsche Audi at O’Hare in Elk Grove Illinois. Upon arrival this 911 T was re- commissioned for the road again with the following items attended to: Remove and recondition fuel tank with new fuel sock installed. All fuel hoses were replaced from tank to engine. Fuel distributor and injectors were flushed and checked for proper flow. Replace Master cylinder , replace front and rear brake rotors , pads and hoses. Repack front wheel bearings new seals installed. Replace front and rear shocks. Replace pedal assembly bushings. Flush and bleed brake system with DOT 4 . Engine out service items attended to; Disassemble engine to pistons / cylinders replacing head gaskets, oil return tube “O” rings, cam housing gaskets and cam “O” rings, thermostat “O” ring and intake manifold gaskets. Valves were adjusted and new valve cover gaskets installed. Install new spark plugs, ignition points Install new fuel filter, air filter, oil filter Rebuild alternator, and fan belt, Powdercoat sheet metal Replace shift linkage and shift tower bushings Transmission main shaft seal , nose cone seal replaced. Transmission oil drained and new Swepco 90 SAE added. New clutch assembly and T.O. bearing installed Flywheel resurfaced, balanced and flywheel seal installed. Batteries replace with Interstate brand Re-install engine, replace oil and tune engine timing and dwell . Glass out re-paint over original paint. Door jambs not touched , new body seals and gaskets installed on assembly. Align front and rear.

    There is something special about a 1972 Porsche 911. For the first time, the entire U.S. model year lineup all had the famous mechanical fuel injection (MFI) and the one-year-only side oil door. The oil tank was moved in front of the right rear wheel for better weight balance. Only the North America T’s got MFI for 1972, while the rest of the world still got carburetors. Furthermore, the ‘72s retained the smaller bumperettes, unlike the unsightly impact bumpers that were mandated for later U.S. ’73 models. It was also the first year displacement bumped to 2.4 liters. Although Aubergine was a standard available color, it was not as popular in the period and fewer cars were ordered in that color. Even less survived repaints to red let alone retaining the majority of their original paint.

    There were 2,931 911 T Coupes built for the North America market. This example was one of the last few hundred examples built for this model year and was probably built in late July or even early August of 1972. It originally entered the US via the Port of San Francisco and the distributor was Porsche Car Pacific, Inc in Burlingame, California. The first owner lived in San Francisco. It was ordered with the following factory options:

    The first owner, Stan, lived in San Francisco and kept the car for over 10 years. He sold the car sometime in the 1980s to a Delta Airline pilot who was stationed out of Salt Lake City, Utah. This pilot kept the car for around 10 years before selling it in 1999 with 55k original miles to Bob Knodle of Cincinnati, Ohio. At the time Bob bought the car, he was living in SLC, Utah but a couple years later, he moved his family to Ohio. He kept the car until 2014 and added 13k miles during his 15-years of ownership. He primarily used the same independent Porsche specialist for the majority of the service needs. The oldest service record we found was an oil service on September 30th, 1999 at 54,916 miles. Highlights of other services include:

    Rebuilt rear brake calipers with front and rear pads (10/08 @ 64,816 miles)

    Spark plugs, prepare for winter storage, install rebuilt radio (11/09 @ 64,953 miles)

    Oil service and general inspection (05/11 @ 66,271 miles)

    Service A/C, repair shifter ball selector, spark plugs, oil service (09/12 @ 67,606 miles)

    Rebuild and calibrate MFI pump by Jerry Fairchild (11/12 @ 67,648 miles)

    This survivor 911 was discovered by our friend David Conklin, a fellow air-cooled enthusiast. He was attending a Porsche event in Dayton, Ohio in 2014 and met Bob who drove up from Cincinnati to attend. He quickly recognized how original the car was and asked Bob if he would consider selling it as he knew some buyers in California who were always looking for original early 911s. Shortly thereafter, the car came out to Southern California and ended up in the capable hands of Dirk Layer. Dirk is known in the air-cooled community as having one of the more discerning eyes for excellent original cars. He helped prepare the car for the next owner by having the details (both cosmetic and mechanical) attended to. He brought the car up to the next level in terms of condition, which included the following items:

    Detail underside/touch up paint on exhaust components

    Detail engine tins and transmission

    Remove engine

    New sound pad

    New chain tensioners and chain rails

    Valve cover gaskets

    Chain cover gasket

    Spark plugs, distributor cap, and rotor

    Replace hot air hoses

    Miscellaneous engine seals and gaskets

    The car stayed in Southern California for a couple of years before being shipped to the next owner, Brian Southwell of Houston, Texas. Brian purchased the car in 2016 with around 69,000 miles. He kept the car for another 5-years but only added 1,800 miles. During his care, the following services were performed:

    Resealed front brake calipers

    Replaced throttle switch

    Routine oil services

    New Boge rear shocks

    New spark plugs with compression and leakdown test:

    Brian sold the car at the beginning of this year (2021) to the current owners who are father and son enthusiasts here in Southern California. They have owned this 911 for less than a year and added less than 500 miles. They had the following services performed:

    Oil service (6/21 @ 70,823 miles)

    Replace throttle valve lever

    Rebuild all brake calipers

    Replace brake hoses and bleed system

    Full body paint correction

    Pirelli CN36 tires (including the spare)

    They just found an early 911 S they had been searching for. The timing wasn’t right but they couldn’t pass the opportunity and therefore need to find a new owner for this Aubergine survivor.

    The right front fender has had some paint work with light blending into the passenger door. This paintwork was purely for superficial reasons. Under detailing fluorescent/LED lights, there is a slight difference in color. It’s less noticeable under natural light. The metal is original and no signs of prior damage. The body gaps and panel fitment are excellent and the car has never been apart. There’s a shallow dent on the hood near where it meets the bumper. It’s hard to see unless at the right angle. The glass is all original, including the windshield, and in great shape with no major chips or scratches. All the proper factory stampings in the glass are present. The exterior lights all work. The deco trim and brightwork are in excellent condition and also original. The anodized trim is original and has a nice purplish fading to it that compliments the paint.

    The interior is equally nice and original as the exterior. The front seats have no tears or rips. The driver seat has a slight indentation from use but is still fairly supportive. The rear seats look unused. The headliner is original and there are no signs of tears or rips. The headliner lights work. The original carpet is in very good shape with no major stains or excessive wear spots. The original sun visors are in excellent shape with just some very slight puffing. Vintage Cocomats (4) have further helped protect the carpet. The door panels are in excellent shape with no significant warping or other major flaws. The window winders operate smoothly through the entire range. The rear view mirror has a slight bit of oxidation on the glass. The door seals and the rest of the rubber are original and in good shape. The dash has no warping and just two very tiny cracks. The original leather wrapped steering wheel is in nice shape. Some of the stitching has come undone but is barely noticeable. All the gauges work, including the clock. The period-correct Blaupunkt radio (dealer installed when new) works. Even the glove-box light works. The A/C system is in place and even blows, just not cold as it hasn’t been serviced in 8-years. However, with a charge of R12, I believe it has a good shot at working. The ignition and door locks are all properly keyed to the same single key.

    The underside is in excellent and original condition. The chassis is dry with no signs of any prior repairs. There are no signs of corrosion either. The engine is dry and there are no signs of significant oil leaks. The original heat exchangers are in good shape and have been repainted. The muffler appears to be an Ansa replacement from in the period but mimics the factory style. The floors and front suspension pan are also original and wearing their proper factory finishes. The rockers and jack points are solid. Even the original and rare red A/C lines appear to be in good shape. It looks as though the oil return tubes have been replaced but there are no receipts. The rear shocks have been replaced with the proper original specification Boge units.

    The engine compartment looks like some of the metal tins have been refurbished as well as mounts and the sound pad. Everything looks clean and original. The trunk also looks original and unaltered. The correct factory finishes are present as is the proper hardware and good seams. This is one of the better preserved original early 911s I’ve seen.

    This 911 comes with 4 keys, owner’s manual with vinyl cover, original factory sales brochure, original technical data brochure, original Porsche COA, set of 4 vintage Cocomats, 20-years of receipts, full size spare wheel/tire, original jack, and original tool kit.

    Currently in between Porsches. Sold my 73.5T Targa, now suffering from serious withdrawal symptoms. Attending Rennsport Reunion VI didn't really help getting over it.
