    Auction Description:

    This particular Porsche 911 is one of the early, short-wheelbase cars of the type much favoured by the historic rallying fraternity, a situation that has led to original examples such as this one becoming a great rarity. It belongs to the '0-Programme' series built from the start of production in August 1964 up to the introduction of the longer-wheelbase 'A-Programme' model in August 1967, and thus represents the Porsche 911 in its earliest and purest form.

    According to the accompanying documentation issued by Porsche Italia, this car was built for the 1965 model year (1st August 1964 to 31st July 1965) with an invoice date of 16th December 1965. The specified colour scheme was Polo Red (colour code 6602) with a brown vinyl interior, while the only other factory option listed was Webasto heating. The country of first registration was Italy, in the province of Macerata in the Marche region, and the car has remained in Italy ever since. The Certification of Origin, again issued by Porsche Italia, confirms engine number '903335' was the original (it is still fitted to the car).

    The current owner, an avid classic car enthusiast with a small stable of cars, purchased the Porsche in 2004, initially to race it, which he did. But then he decided that a 911 from 1965 was far too valuable to race and commissioned respected Porsche specialists Pentacar of Colico near Milan to carry out a no-expense-spared restoration, commencing in March 2017. The body was stripped back to bare metal, repaired where necessary and professionally repainted to a very high standard in the original colour of Polo Red. The interior was restored at the same time, as of course were the mechanicals and the original matching-numbers engine. The result is described as excellent in all respects, and since the restoration's completion in May 2020 the car has been driven only a little over 1,200 kilometres at the time of cataloguing. As icing on the cake, the owner purchased a new tool kit and jack from Porsche Classic to complete the picture. The car is offered with the Italian libretto and Certificato di Proprietą as well as ASI Targa Oro certification. An original, Italian-delivered Porsche 911 from 1965, with matching engine and colour, this is a car for the true Porsche connoisseur.
    Why is a early 911 different from a 912: bumperguards with rubber, 2 screw horngrils, typeplate not above the chassinr. Maybe someone could explaine. Thank you very much

    As far as I know, the differences between a 911 and a 912 built on the same day would have been the engine, the transmission, and the trim level.

    Chassis # 303232 would be a late calendar year 1965 but a 1966 model year. The last calendar year 1965 chassis number was 303390. It has all the Model Year '66 features, including a paint code beginning with 66. The rubber bumperette covers were optional on 911s beginning in October 1965.

    I have a 912 (Nov65) MY66 myself. I have chrome bumper guards, 4 screw horn grills. type plate above the chassis number. That's why I was wondering if a 911 is any different than a 912. Actually, I suppose not.

    1966 Porsche 911 Coupe in Schwartz Price: $134500
    This 1966 Porsche 911 coupe was acquired by the current owner in 2018 following a refurbishment that included a repaint in black, refreshing the cabin, and carburetor and fuel-system work. Power is from a replacement 2.0-liter flat-six paired with a five-speed manual transaxle, and equipment includes chrome bumper guards, 15? Fuchs wheels, woodgrain dashboard trim, and a RetroSound radio. The alternator was rebuilt in January 2020, and other recent service includes replacing the tires. This 911 coupe is now offered on dealer consignment in California with a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, partial service records, and a Montana title.

    The car was disassembled, dents were repaired, and the body was repainted in its original shade of black (6609) in October 2015. The windshield and rear glass were replaced in 2016, and the cowl, windshield frame, and roof were refinished in April 2017. Exterior features include chrome headlight rings, bumper guards, and an optional driver-side mirror.

    Polished 15? Fuchs wheels have black-painted recesses and are mounted with 185/70 Vredestein Sprint Classic tires that show date codes from 2021. Rear spring plate bushings were installed in August 2016, and the selling dealer reports that the suspension was rebuilt.

    The cabin features seats trimmed in black leatherette along with matching carpets, woodgrain dashboard trim, and replacement black door panels that were installed in August 2019. A RetroSound radio is installed along with replacement knobs, rings, and buttons. The factory-optioned Webasto gas heater is retained.

    The four-spoke steering wheel frames a central tachometer, a 150-mph speedometer, a clock, and auxiliary gauges. The speedometer, five-digit odometer, and temperature gauge were repaired in October 2017, and the odometer shows 82k miles. Total mileage is unknown.

    The 2.0-liter flat-six is a replacement that was sourced from another 1966 911. The carburetors were overhauled in June 2016, and they were most recently tuned and balanced in January 2020. Other service in June 2016 included replacing the spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor, and ignition wires. The alternator belt was replaced in September 2016, the fuel tank and fuel-sending unit were replaced in June 2017, and the alternator was rebuilt and the fuel pump was replaced in January 2020. The selling dealer notes that the engine is difficult to start when cold.
    Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transaxle. Additional underside photographs can be seen in the gallery below.


    The Porsche Certificate of Authenticity lists original colors and options as well as a build date of April 1966.
