PCG stand for Porsche Classic Genuine or Porsche Classic Group or some such thing. A lot of their classic line parts starts with that. However, if you order a PCG34190400 (69-73 strut insert) from Porsche, you get a Koni 86-1638 insert. You just pay more for it.

Yeah, I figured probably aftermarket on the 82R-1394, but at least in period. Looks like Koni was making aftermarket sealed units that look just like today's units as far back as April 1973 to replace what came in those struts from the factory.

BTW, I can't see the part numbers on my car (as expected). Looking at some photos, if I squint, it looks like 901.341.083.10 for the strut assembly on the left.

That's an incorrect page. Those are very clearly a non-cartridge shock for a 914 and that isn't the correct part number for them according to the Porsche PET. They should have a 914 part number. 914.197.640.20 008 to be precise for the left side.

On a subsequent page on that web site you can see what looks to be a 901.341.XXX.XX Koni strut. https://pbase.com/9146gt/image/161074510

Here is a correct 911 one I just found for the S caliper. https://msroadrace.com/Porsche-911-K...10-90134108410

And I went downstairs and checked and the 911 PET also lists the part as 901 341 083 10.

I agree with you. I think Armando Serrano has made a typo somewhere. I have emailed him but he still hasn't answered.

Anyway, I think most, if not all, 911 cars that were originally equipped with Koni's from the factory had front struts of wet-type. The reason I think that is because the engineers wanted use all the diameter available of the tube to contain the oil, and thus bigger innard.

The bigger diameter of the shock absorber the stiffer the hydraulicity. If you're going to use cartridges which are smaller diameter, you might as well use Boge's as I don't think there will be much difference in stiffness between the two brands.

    My 2 cents.

You may well be right. But I find the Koni replacement cartridges just as good as what was there in terms of damping control and my car came with Konis, so it was never going to be anything else. Accuracy counts in my case.

    Hi all:
In the thick of this now and totally confused as follows:
    - Car is a 69 911s with Koni wet struts
    - 86-1638 inserts are the proper length, but the glan nut dia is too small (50mm vs 53mm housing)
    - So asked supplier to measure glan nut on the 86-1306 struts (53mm) thinking someone might have changed to an earlier housing at some point in car's life (??)
    - Ordered 86-1308 inserts to replace the ones I have, but they are too long for the housing by about 8mm, but the glan nuts are correct
    - 86-1638 struts with the 86-1308 glan nuts work perfect but supplier won't take the inserts back w/o the orig nuts
Does anyone know where to buy the proper glan nuts for this application?
    Thanks,
    Mark Peyser - 69 911S

    Mark,

Talk to Jason at Paragon Products...
He came up with the magic fix for my Koni car, vs new Koni Sport inserts, vs wrong glan nuts in the kit...

Thanks Chuck - I have a call into them but they are tough to reach. Not returning calls.

Jason can be a bit slow, but I bought mine from him as well. Of course the '73 was more straightforward. Call them rather than email.

So, the size of the gland nut has changed too? Incredible.

Can't original wet struts be refreshed with new oil rather than buying new inserts?
