Few more changes from MY 71 to 72, more galvanised panels and different back seat panel, rear suspension crossmember, 915 crossmember with removable silent blocs, M14 rear shocks bolts, external oil lines, etc...

I always assumed they were transitional pieces in preparation for the balloon bumpers for ‘73. They are interesting as they are not so much “painted” but instead “epoxy coated” or “rubber/plastic coated”. I have them on my silver targa and always thought the black bumpers were a nice contrast. The engine lid and targa bar insignia are also black on my car.

pretty sure the black bumperettes were euro delivered cars. they are painted with a fairly thick paint...but probably not epoxy. I bought some years ago from Porsche and they came wrapped in 1973 German newspaper
