302535 BIN on eBay $149,900. Seems very reasonable for such a highly optioned early car with some modifications.

302535 has been around on sale at various places for quite a while. It was a project at the local Porsche dealer in Ottawa in 2017: I spent a lot of time talking with Terry, the old-hand mechanic who had been around the dealership for many years. He knew quite a lot about the early cars, but his knowledge was limited when it came to 1965 production year, 1966 model year cars.
There was quite a lot 'wrong' with the car which Terry was trying to correct but I think the owner's objective was to turn it around for profit.
Given the asking price is now $145,000US I doubt there's much profit in the car...
If anyone is seriously interested, I can dig out the many photos I took of the car when it was being worked on.
BTW there are some nice pieces there - the seats were in good condition and the steering wheel was, at the time, aluminium. The dealership didn't know there were steel and alloy ones and I tried to get them to swap my steel wheel for theirs ... shame they didn't say 'yes'.

Auction Description:
- Unrestored Short-Wheelbase 911 Delivered New to California
- Retains Matching-Numbers Engine per Porsche Kardex
- Accompanied by Copies of the COA and Kardex, Partial Tool Kit, Spare, and Jack
According to a copy of the Porsche Kardex, this early production, short-wheelbase 911 was completed on March 24, 1966, and delivered to Carl Steffens of Mountain View, California through Porsche Cars Northeast Inc. of Bedford, Massachusetts, one of seven US Porsche distributors during the period. Believed to have been retained by a second California owner from 1967 onwards, this unrestored 911 was acquired by Mark Smith circa 2014.
Presented in largely as-found, unrestored condition, Mr. Smith had the mechanical systems serviced early on in his ownership but left the wonderfully patinated exterior and interior substantially untouched. Receipts on file from Another Gear Enterprising Inc. of Lynchburg, Virginia dating from 2014 and 2016 detail a sympathetic recommissioning, including rebuilding the engine, cleaning the transaxle, installing a new clutch, overhauling the braking system, and replacing perished rubber parts and bushings.
Retaining its matching-numbers engine per a copy of the Porsche Kardex on file, this 911 is offered with a spare, jack, and partial tool kit. The sale of this survivor presents its next caretaker with a quandary: commission a show-quality restoration or continue to preserve this piece of Porsche history.
*Please note that this Lot, like all vehicles in this Auction, has been in long-term static storage and may not be currently operational. It will require mechanical attention prior to any road use.

I met Mark Smith at a gathering a few years ago. He actually drove this car. I was quite taken aback by the “patina” and the general untouched condition. When he left a few of us watched it start up, no muss-no fuss and off he went. Never saw him again but would hear about the collection from time to time. His car collection was huge including a vast collection of memorabilia.
If I wanted an untouched SWB this would rank high.
The originality is a reason Mark Smith bought it. Look at the catalog; originality meant a lot.

I live in Lynchburg and knew Mark. My mechanic was also his mechanic. If anyone need a closer look at the cars I'm around. He also had a similar 67S.

I have 303963 which was built the day after on 3/25/66. Also Polo Red. (but over red interior). Also highly original outside of a respray. Also doing a similar reconditioning to get it back on the road as a survivor. It will be fun to see how this auction goes.

1966 912. My first car. Bought it Nov. 25, 1988. Still have it.
The car sold for $100,000 on the floor, exclusive of the 12% buyer commission. The auction house had documentation from the original owner in California and the second owner in Nevada. Car had been resprayed at some point, bondo in the left rear, and there were receipts for rebuilding the engine 10 years ago as well.
