    WTB: 905/01 Sportomatic Transmission

    Looking for a Model 905/01 Sportomatic transmission complete or in pieces or parts. Serial number should start with 418.####

    Do you know what kind of oil to put in sportomatic gear box? I have to change oil of my 68.

    I must admit that I never thought about the lubricants needed for the Sportomatic transmission (spent my career advising on equipment lubrication). Here’s the manual:

    The torque converter shared the engine’s oil supply (noting the higher initial fill and engine oil change amounts). This manual does not indicate a “separate” gearbox section but a classic SAE 80W-90 mineral oil-based gear oil (or a more modern SAE 75W-90 most likely synthetic-based gear oil) would certainly fit the bill and be much easier to find than an HD 30 motor oil.
