Good job. I thought that this was a joke at first. No joke, really really nice. Now you can finish it as a running restoration..
Wray and me had some fun yesterday mocking up the Faux Cam motor. I had one idea, Wray, as usual, had a better one so we went with his idea. Once I finish the sheet metal it will look pretty good!
On the left is the real 4 cam, on the right is my interpretation.

We've now reached the point where the final engine needs to go into the car. Vic built me the longblock, Ibrahim Kuzu supplied the shroud, now Bill has to make it all work. I added a wrinkle to the whole deal too when I decided to switch the generator to 12V. Bill dis-assembled the shroud, which is pretty tricky and involves some Carrera specific tools. Turns out the 12V generator I had been saving looked great but doesn't work, so it's being repaired. We also check out the Solex 40 PII's and made some adjustments. I focused mainly on taking down the carbs for inspection and finishing up with the fake valve covers. I sourced the correct nuts from Germany and can add safety wire for dramatic effect. Hoping to complete the engine phase by the end of July, stay tuned!

I got the 12V generator back so Bill was able to install it in the shroud, which was pretty tricky, not a lot of clearance for the double fan. We then tested the carbs and one was not providing any squirt so I'll be swapping that out too.
The shroud is now back on the engine and it's starting to look pretty good.
We also got started on the remote oil lines with the kit provided by Ron at Precision Matters. Installed the oil cooler block off plate provided by Vic. We still have some lite machining to do to get the oil lines installed but that should be fairly straightforward.
Hoping to get it in the car in the next few weeks.

We've reached the tedium stage of getting all the engine stuff to work before we put it in the car. It's one thing to mock it up, it's another to make it work. We are doing a lot of modifications to make this engine work in the car. We had to run a full flow oil cooler in the front since the 4 Cam shroud wouldn't work with the 912 oil cooler. Precision Matters makes a kit that bolt to the oil pump gears. It takes some drilling of the case but nothing too hard, at least not for Bill. After that we added a block off plate for the stock oil cooler, supplied by Vic, which is fitting since he built the engine. But his block off plate was a little too high for the shroud to fit, so it took some grinding on that too. So lots of putting together, not fitting, taking apart, modifying, and trying again. Makes for slow work but we hope to get the engine in this month. We did get the other engine out!

The heart of any great car is its engine. For this build I was lucky enough to coax Vic Skirmants out of engine building retirement to build me a special engine. Combined with Ibrahim Kuzu's shroud and the magic hands of Bill Haupt the engine was installed in the car today. A momentous day to say the least.
The next and final chapter is coming soon, stay tuned.
