Thread: Floor rubber plugs

  1. #21
For 12 mm holes in a recent project, I used VW N.020.025 rubber plugs that were available from The Thing Shop. I couldn't find anything from Porsche in that size.

Spray silicone lube is the way to go when installing rubber plugs. Wuerth makes a fine spray of this kind.

Even if has distorted due to age it would be useful to have it noted. Visually different shape and size especially the conical part vs current ones from Porsche. Comparing to stoddart image where conical part seems almost same diameter as the visible flat part at widest point the yours with screen in background is maybe half that diameter?

I am starting to 2nd guess myself as to whether that is in fact an original plug or not. It fits nicely and easily but as the shaft is so narrow it can move a little left to right.

Hole is definately 7.5mm, 8mm drill will not fit in.

B in your diagram is 15mm same as new ones.

    A is 2mm.

I'll try to figure out what C and D are.

Would love to know if anyone has original plugs in their floor that can move from side to side so I can confirm it that one I have is an original or not

I tried to move my plugs when I was taking a photo a while ago - they were all hard and fast but I dont know if that is due to them being in the same place for 50 years and the crap that was on the bottom of my car for almost as long effectively gluing them there or that they were always a tight fit
They are as hard as a rock now and I think the only way to remove them would be to cut them out so that is probably the main reason that they are immovable in my opinion
