911S not so yellow tag distributor question

Does anyone know if this distributor might have been a replacement?

Seems to have the 002 number, pulled from a S engine, but no yellow tag?

Any thoughts?

Jesse, find the date stamp on the other side of your distributor.
The first digit of the Bosch date code was the year of manufacture. In this example, 707 was July '67. A date stamp for March '68 would be 803.

Thanks for your explanation Jon! There is no date or oil filler hole, so maybe this was a ‘blanco distributor’ that was set to S specs at the dealer?

If I remember correctly there were black 002 tags FS at ebay.com. What is also different is the050 number on the left side of the tag.
Check the distributor curve, than you should know what the internals are.

I have one similar! It has a black tag without the 050 in the upper left corner of the Bosch tag. Also, no oiler knob? if that's what it is, as pictured by the OP..So what is it? a factory replacement? it does have a 7300 rotor. Has a 1 stamped between the clip and the condenser spade....cliff

Hello Cliff,
Can you please post a picture of the rotor and another picture of the base plate with the contact when the rotor is taken off?
Would be interesting if the rotor is the 161 or later and early/late base plate.

Thank you Cliff for the pictures.
All parts are later style:
- Pointer base plate w/o multiple holes and no excenter screw
- plastic not metal dust cover
- new style rotor
But very nice piece anyway!
Maybe you could check for the 3 numbers date code on the outer surface of the housing again. Would be really interesting what year!
Condenser is date code 723, correct? That would be March 1977.

I throughly looked for a three digit code; not to be found. Here is a picture of the box it came with. Doubt it is correct! The only number on the outer surface is a single 1 noted in the earlier post by me; post #9. Have a good one,cliff

The three bottom pictures are from a distributor that came with an engine ( non S ) bought some years ago. Haven’t found a 3 digit date code yet. There is a single 1 in the same place as the newer nos picture I posted earlier post #8.

###### Still looking for transmission # 231795 902/1 from a 1967 de Luxe. Take a look and see if you have it in your car/ shop, I can supply another “non original “ for you + some cash.
