    Leather Tire Hold-Down Straps

My long departed (and really missed) 1967 Rally Build had a strap to secure the spare. Which was really needed because it had a 110L tank.

I looked around a bit and I didn't see anyone making these and I thought I would see if there might be any interest in them. I have a retire friend who enjoys working with leather and we possible work our way into other leather accessories. In any event please let me know if you might have an interest the spare hold-down kit. If there's enough interest I'll have my friend make a few.

    Thanks,
    John

    Hi John,

I have a 110-liter tank and collapsible spare in my 73 911E Targa. I might be interested.

    Thumbs up

I hope John doesn't mind but for those who don't remember John's outstanding '67 Rally Build...

Here's a pic I took of it at the Deus Ex Machina gathering two Saturday's ago ... Always loved this car...

I'm happy that the current owner is taking good care of it. You know, that car looked pretty good. But the driving! Oh my.

Yes, that would be neat to have in my car. I have the stock tank though.

No need to reinvent the wheel. Luggage straps that will do the trick are available from Stoddard and others. Here is the link to the one offered by Stoddard. It comes in black and brown: https://www.stoddard.com/nla55531100tan.html I have these strap in my early 65 911.

If you choose to go that route you can buy them from Stoddard for $199.50 or from me for $168.50. Or you can have me build you a set (possibly using the same straps) for $295.00 or $345.00 including a tool kit hold-down. To my (most likely biased eye) the one I built for Stubby looks better and more capable than the one pictured above. You be the judge.

@Those of you who have expressed an interest: Please let me know if you are still interested.

    Cheers,
    John

Stubby seems to have gained the attention of many folks. Out of 30+ air-cooled Porsches it's the one I miss the most. But it's probably for the best. I just turned 80 (!) and still enjoy spirited driving. It reminds me of the old joke: "I want to die peacefully in my sleep like my grandpa. Not screaming and yelling like his passengers."

The hold-down kits are available for ordering now. You will find them HERE.

    Cheers,
    John
