    Charlie Watts

Privilege to be invited to a small, private gathering to appreciate the sartorial elegance of the late Charlie Watts today. Tasteful remembrance attended by his only child daughter and only granddaughter today.
Lovely people. Understated man who while a key part of the biggest rock band on the planet quietly appreciated the good things in life including the finest Savile Row bespoke tailoring, fine automobiles and unlike so many others knew how to “swing” Respect Mr Watts Esquire.

Incidentally this is the unveiling of Ian Callum’s new car taken from the first floor window balcony at Huntsman. I wish this talented and charming man every success we were involved together in the Aston Martin Vanquish design and development programme around the turn of the millennium. At the time I invited some of my Porsche owner pals to Hethel for factory tour, demo laps with the Lotus test drivers etc and they happened to share the track with heavily disguised Vanquish prototypes but they incorrectly guessed it was a new Jaguar.

The event was more than just a show of cars in the famous west end street there was discussion on restoration and preservation of classic cars and the future of fuels at the Royal Academy. The former seminar panel included experts from other fields: fine art, antique furniture and bespoke tailoring to get a more rounded perspective alongside folks from automotive:

This second seminar at the Royal Academy lecture theatre was on the future of fuels:

Mr Bean’s real life alter ego is far from the bumbling fool character he plays on screen seen here in audience during one of these by invitation seminars.

Off screen a very intelligent man he holds bachelors and masters qualifications in Engineering and is a Fellow of a University of Oxford College

The experience enhanced by door to door chauffeur service and pole position parking in the Royal Acadamy courtyard on London’s Piccadilly courtesy of my RA member friend in his neat classic Fiat — the old car was in top form having done a cross-channel return trip London - Spa Circuit just a few days earlier:
