That could be a nice trade for both parties. I understand why you would be looking for a 356A. You should be able to get a 58 or 59 factory sunroof coupe in decent unrestored condition in exchange for your beautiful car.
    Good luck!

Ahhhh the sixties... I envision myself one early Saturday morning wearing plaid shorts, black shoes with white socks smoking a cigarette heading to the hardware store to buy a bag of nails.
SWB cars are an acquired taste however once acquired theirs no turning back.

    Aluminum or Magnesium case?

    From the PCA Tech Q&A

I think Porsche did mid-year changes just to confuse us 40 years later. Different sources give different time frames, one said after March 68, one said mid-year 68, and still another says 69 on. I tend to think it was the March time frame. Porsche may have intended this change for 1968, but they would have used up existing aluminum case stock first. I checked the parts book, it states that pressure cast (magnesium) cases were used on the type 901/14 after engine number 328-0631. Since the first 1968 case production numbers started with 328-0001 you can see that the change could have occurred as early as the March time frame. What I cant figure is where you got an engine number of 5 digits with the first one being a numeral 1. Anyway, it would appear that you could certainly have the mag case in the 68. I know That I have worked on mag case 68 cars. Since they start producing the next model year cars in September, after the summer vacations, a mag case could have been in a 68 by its sale time in March. Ed Mayo - PCA WebSite - 4/28/2005
