    WTB: 7:31 Ring & Pinion

Rebuilding a 72 915 tranny that needs a 7:31 ring and pinion for mechanical speedo.

Please let me know if anyone has one in good condition.

    Thanks, Ed

New ones are available; unfortunately, not cheap.

I can get a new Albins 7:31 Ring and pinion for $2500. I’d rather have German, but as you point out, buying new German is not cheap. My need is not urgent, so I can afford to be patient for a few months and see if something comes available.

Ordered a R&P for my ‘74 from the Porsche dealer. $5K. Found that they are all mismakked and have been pulled from stock. Really screwed up my transmission rebuild time line. Waiting for the correct one. Thought that ordering from Porsche was a safe bet.

Tony out of curiosity do you know what manufacturer they were made by?

I have a one last New old stock genuine Porsche ring & pinion set that’s been sitting since the 70’s that I’d happily let go for 5k if your sick of waiting.

    Cheers Bren
