    Black rocker trim on 73s

I'd love information on the black rocker trim seen on 1973 911s. I've attached 2 photos of this area. My 73 also has this black trim. Was it 73 only? Part of 73? Why is it there?
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks Chuck. I skimmed through the thread but not sure if it answers the questions. What year/years had the black painted area and why was it done like that? Another photo for reference. It's the black area just above the lift pad.

The black painted rocker and nothing else painted black was for the MY '73 cars only . Porsche was hiding the easily visible body color below the aluminum rocker trim .

It was done on more years than 73. I’ve had original paint cars with the rockers blacked out. The purpose was like the post above to hide the color on the bottom of the body. Looks much better blacked out than a stripper of color below the molding. They did it a bit differently earlier, a 68 Og paint car had it on the bottom of the rocker down to the end of the pinch weld but the wheel wells were black on all the 65-72 cars so it doesn’t look the same.

I think the real point in blacking out the rocker was to create the perception of a lowered car. I read that somewhere (probably 000 magazine).
