    Bob Garretson

Sadly Bob Garretson passed away yesterday after a long battle with cancer at the age of 92. Bob was one of the great Porsche people. A world Champion. First met him at his shop in the 80's while taking the Anderson/Woods engine class.
    Great guy. RIP Bob...

    Great guy. RIP Bob...
I stopped off to see him a few years ago, he was kind enough to sign the dash of my car that he built so long ago. RIP Bob.

Bob is wearing a polo from the international Porsche 356 meeting in Vaals in 2011. So this picture was probably taken first weekend of March 2012.

Sad news. I had a lovely chat with Bob and wife Ruth in the Silverstone paddock back 2021. They were over here visiting friends - she is English and he’d had previously lived and had a business in U.K. I recognised his friend Mike from the UK Porsche community which is how we began to chat . We spent the next hour or so standing together in paddock watching a few classic races and chatting. I was there as guest of Dave — MajorDad here — watching him race his RSR so that and being a long term Porsche owner plus me having worked in motorsport it gave us plenty to talk about. Particularly he recalled details of a race against a mutual friend, English Porsche racer Nick Faure, who he recalled had been a rival on a particular race day.

I knew him for over 40 years and he always had that smile. Every meeting was a reunion and a story. Although I didn't see him every year, when we saw each other, it was always as if we had just talked...I was proud when he recognised me in a crowd at an event...and remembered my name.....We lost a big man in our Porsche passion.
