I personally know the car and followed the restoration , somewhere I have a picture of the Kardex of the car and try to find it to post it later, so I guess, this will answer Davep´s questions! The story is very simple and pretty clear:

Karl von Wendt bought the Porsche 911 with the chassis no. 303785, color white, as a used car from Friedr. Carl v. Graf Hardenberg, Hannover Germany.

He drove the car from 19.3.1967 till 2.7.1967.

After a total loss at the Nürburgring (July 2, 1967), Porsche replaced this car for Karl von Wendt with a replacement body with the chassis number 13448 (FIA replacement numbers 134ff, see enclosed).

The racing career of 13448 began with the first race at Spa, 22/23.7.1967.

These details are from the two Kardex cards from Porsche.

As far as I know, the car is well documented and there is a book by the author Ulrich Trispel, Bielefeld Germany, about the Porsche 13448.

Thanks Frank. It is a bit odd that the Kardex for 303785 does not have the replacement chassis # 13488 noted on it. Thankfully, 13488 Kardex does show 303785 as the chassis being replaced, however it is not dated. Oddly the 13488 has a 1968 paint code and an interior code I associate with early 1969. These lead me to believe that 13488 is a very early 1968 chassis; 11805002 has an invoice date of June 21, 1967 so I have to assume some 1968 chassis were available in late June 1967. It has been stated that Porsche was supporting Karl von Wendt, so the immediate availability of the chassis would allow for the rapid rebuilding of the car in just 20 days.
Photos of the VIN stamp and paint badge would be of the greatest interest to me. Dave
