    Color coded engine cowling

I have recently purchased a 1968 911. The car has a 2.7 liter engine with green cowling. I believe green was the color code for a 2.7 liter S engine. am I correct?

yes. the early cars would have had green for E, red for S.

with the 2.7L CIS engines, the so called "S" was no longer a real S anymore in the US and they put the green shrouds on them.

But the holes will be different. The CIS shroud will not have the hole for the MFI adjustment access. Also, the CIS shroud will not have cutouts for the MFI injectors. (Although you should be able to see the outlines in the plastic)

So if I tell people that I have a 2.7L "S" engine in my 73E, and they lift the engine deck lid on my car, and see the green engine shroud, they will be impressed???

Actually, what they'll be thinking is, "Too bad you don't have the stock '73 E engine, Larry. You know, it has most usable horsepower of any early 911 engine ever built."

    Long live the green E's

    Not Complaining

    Sandy:

Don't consider what I said as a slap against the "green E's." When I was looking at buying mine, there were bunches of guys that said that the favorite Porsche they ever owned was an E.

Now, on the other hand, I have also heard of people that took a stock E engine, kept the E cam and made it a 2.7. With the E cam, and 2.7 liters, they had a sleeper that screamed in the lower revs and still looked stock.

Not doing it, yet, just thinking about it. (Just hope that I don't need to do it anytime soon!!! )

I have just restored a 73 Targa T. When I got to the motor it turned out to need so much work that it was uneconomical to rebuild. I found a 2.4E motor to replace it and, wow, it goes well, sound fabulous and is really flexible, what a great motor!
