    Erik,

That is not correct. The seller of RS 406 (on eBay now for the third time) also sold RS 315. The B-J car was RS 507. We were all a little confused when the car was first listed on the B-J website. I certainly do wonder about the replacement motor 6630008, was it really a factory replacement for the original?

Not withstanding what I posted earlier about potential bargains I would also be extremely suspicious about the engine number "story".
While it is possible that it is true, the lowest production engine number was 21 (although 03 and 04 were on factory race cars R1 and R2 respectively)
I thought all the early numbers were kept for testing or for the early race cars but I suppose it is possible that it was a factory spare that was supplied early in its life when it was in Germany.
You would think that it would have to be a very early "catastrophic failure" of the engine and a preferred client of the factory to get a replacement like 08.
Otherwise it would be more likely to get an unnumbered case or one with a number over 1550 - the highest number allocated at production.
You would definitely want factory confirmation of the engine swap before seroius consideration of the car

    More on RS 406

another Data point to ponder is that according to the RS book #406 is supposed to have a sunroof and I could not see that in the photos and a limited slip diff but not sports seats which I presume means that it retained the original Recaro buckets that it was homologated with?.

There is also no mention of the 100 (110 ?) litre tank (although such things are listed in the RS book if they were original equipment). Such (110L) tanks were OE for the M491 conversions though (RSR).

Apart from the sunroof it seems to have the original specifications for a car set up for (say) club competition rather than a standard road car, although it is hard to see why such a car would be ordered with a sunroof.

    Fryardds,

How do you know it is not the same guy? I can almost be positive both cars came from the same source. A friend of mine looked at RS #507 at BJ and had an incorrect serial number in the windshield. It had a later model #. Sounds fishy.

What number was on the windshield? Someone must have added a number plate there anyway for import purposes. Japan is heading into another recession so there may be some opportunities if you can get past the language barrier.

I will rephrase then by saying I don't think Jun (the seller of #315 and representing the seller of #406) was the seller of #507 at B-J. In a previous listing of #406, Jun makes reference to the sale of #315 to the UK. In this current listing he makes no mention of the sale of #507. Why don't you tell us how you are almost positive he is the same seller?

I saw #507 myself when the car was in California and saw no problems with the Alum. VIN plate, the VIN stamp in the trunk or the stamping of the motor #. The only real way to be sure is check the Prod #.

    Hugh,

RS #406 has a sunroof. Look closely at this photo from the auction.

This photo shows the sunroof button above the ingnition switch.

#406 checks out as having come with a sunroof. I know the new owner of #507. He would not have bought a POS.

Erick, you've got some 'splainin' to do...
