I love you guys, what passion over seat fabric. I just bought a 69S that has houndtooth/leather seats. I think they will need to be redone, does tony restore entire interiors? I know someone who has a handloom that has woven houndstooth fabric in past, I'll work on getting some made. Are there any other sources for this fabric?
regards,
phil
I would be curious as to what someone would charge for a yard of handloom stuff that was "right on." The only sources that I could find that had some when I did my search, were few and far between, and only had a yard or two, that they were jealously guarding. That's why I found a mill to do it. There are multiple problems, which I have related on this board previously. I'm glad I did it, and the seats look great, but the result from the mill was disappointing to say the least.

Jeff Smith had the 73' Madras plaid in red woven up for his silver coupe... he found a local weaver to do it. He had to have something like 5 to 7 yards woven to get it right due to how the yardage had to be placed on the seats (or so he told me). Anyway, it's dead on perfect.
I would assume that if you looked into a local weavers guild you might be able to find someone to do it...maybe I'll try with the red/black/white...always liked that one.

Just to lighten things up a bit. This is a tweed dish towel (truly!) expertly applied in less than 30 seconds.I just happened to notice that Heidi had bought these new Houndstooth towels. Must have been subliminal.

Jens,
I am not an (seat) expert, but - correct me if I am wrong - I do know that you can not use just any fabric for seats. Has to do with strength and durability. In other words it might look good for a day or two but how about it after?

On a serious note, I may be able to lay my hands on several yards of brown tweed sourced some 15 years ago. It's factory stuff and was tucked away at an auto upholstery shop in the Boston area by the seller of my Heidi's Tangerine car.
I'll have to dig out the contact info. This was years ago.

Richard, you bring up a good point. My '70T, purchased new, sold a few years later, came with the black/white houndstooth inserts. The car was my daily driver, and I did NOT like the inserts. The fabric wore, would "pill" on me, and was a female dog to keep clean. IMHO, it's hard to beat leather for seat material. But, I can see why these guys love the fabric on their cars, which are not daily drivers. It adds to the uniqueness to have the NLA material in their seats. After all, cows are still plentiful...Originally Posted by 304678

Jens... Tried to PM you but your box is full. Are you going to follow up on the OLD tan tweed lead or just a cruel teaser? I have a 73 with this material and am about to ship the seats out to Tony for a tighten and tuck along with frame and hardware restoration. My seat base material is a little stretched and if the real stuff pops up I would be first to whine up a storm to get my hands on enough just to do the seat cushion inserts. Back rests are still mint. Thanks, Daron
Daron, kind of a teaser in that it may take a bit of doing to track it down. It's been a while. I'll give it a go.
