Johnson's 'The 911 & 912 Porsche" also lists sports seats as standard for 1971??? Anybody got an original invoice for a 71S?

I would say with nice sport seats going for at least $4,500, the car is definitely worth MORE. I am putting sport seats with houndstooth in my 72S targa. Should look good witht he top off.Originally Posted by 69Sman

That wouldnt be the first mistake in Johnsons sewer rag of a book. Some time ago someone liked the sound of saying all 71s cars had sportseats, who knows why, and now everybody wants to believe it. Eurotech and Glaverbel, back me up on this basic misrepresented issue.
So Rick does not believe the cardex on the original low mileage black '71S he bought with my help, or does he believe leather sport seats were added to that car later? Has to be one or the other.Originally Posted by schmidt

No he doesnt, Cardex are lame at best, I have seen so many errors on those I wouldnt believe a thing they say. I know people who have had them changed to say something else, and I know that one large California restoration shop has a relationship with the Cardex people and just tells them what to put on it. Every Cardex I have for every car I own is wrong. Example, Wolford bought an RS, the cardex said no sportseats of limited slip. Konrandsheims RS book listed both of these items. When I took delivery of the car for Wolford guess what sport seats and a limited slip. So I quess all RS Carrera have a slip and sports seats, RIGHT! Cabell owned a orange 71S with no sport seats, and Howards 71s came with one sportseat, and the invoice had a charge for the one seat, and the cardex stated one seat. Sport seats where listed on my 71S cardex as well.
Well, that settles that. Thanks Jeff.
Now, Jeff, check out this thread - what's the correct story on the '73 oil coolers?

Man, you boys been beat'n on this one…![]()
I tend to agree with my lunatic friend Jeff Smith (Schmidt) on this one… I feel the cardex is OK for the basic info at best, sketchy on options, and completely misleading at worst…
I sent away for Certificates of Authenticity from both PCNA (then in Nevada) and Germany … they were both correct (I have a very low option car) but both differed in the amount of information.
I believe that the Carrera book is so damn accurate because RS's were 'as ordered' cars from the dealers (I have a copy of a '73 U.S. dealer RS customer order sheet) I would assume those order sheets served as start for the factory 'build sheets' for each car. I also believe that the authors of the RS book had access to those customer order sheets and or the factory build sheets for their book on every RS made.
I also think that if there is little or sketchy info on a particular car... we can only go with the info we have…
However, as I've worded the above, if we state our opinions with " I believe, I think, In my estimation, I would assume, " we would be a lot safer then stating a fact with no exceptions … in our little world of Hans and Dieter on the assembly line waiting for their beer break...![]()
My 2 cents

I've also read the same thing in a couple of other books besides Johnson's. Not to say that the incorrect info is not repeated by other authors. If the cardexs are suspect in general then they can't be relied upon for either opinion. Let's see those invoices and window stickers for 71 US and European. Thanks Paul, I dont understand how these stupid facts get started, people say stupid sh*t that they want to believe and everyone jumps on board without any supporting evidence, and more importantly when it breaks from the standard of what should be expected. Everyone agrees that the rest of early S cars had optional sport seats, but not the 71 only! That is stupid, it should be assumed that they were optional in 71 as well not standard , but some how the assumption got turned around.
