The figures in the Ward's book show gas mileage at 15.9 mpg. Not very impressive. Is this typical for a '68? I recall getting better mileage, at least on the highway, with my long gone '66, which had more radical cams.

If it's an S, it was not a US deliverey car, and only US cars had them, my 68S doesn't have them and never did.My 68S has no side marker lights
The decklid changed in the middle of 68, so it could be correct, my current 68 has the newer type, but I would say most 68's have the older type.1) Wrong decklid - that one belongs on a 1965 - early 1967 car.
I've necer actually calculated my mpg, but in my '68 they're lousy for sure. The figures in the Ward's book show gas mileage at 15.9 mpg. Not very impressive
Very nice car, $60,000 however.....mmmmm

Thanks Henry,
Not so sure about the year for the change in the decklid. My understanding is that it was midyear 1967, not 1968. Here are the cars I've had and the associated decklids:
1966 911 - Old style (with black under the grille)
1966 912 - Old style (with black under the grille)
1967 911 - New style (901/05 engine and green gauges - ie - early 67)
1967 911 - New style (901/05 engine and green gauges - ie - early 67))
1968 912 - New style
1968 911 - New style
1970 911E - New style
1970 911S - New style
1972 911T - New style
I'll check Johnson's book when I get a chance to see what he says.

Nice car indeed. The side reflectors came on all '68 models, US only, to comply with safety regulations. Porsche incorporated reflectors in the '69 taillight re-design so they weren't necessary.
In '68 you could get a "base" 911 or a 911L in the USA, both with the same smog engine, but the L had S trim. T,L, and S were available elsewhere.
Cute car, although the painter got wild with the overspray. Is that a Bursch muffler?
MPG??? Who cares? I mean, REALLY? Who cares? If it got 10mpg I'd still be happy to be seen in it.
Best,
Tom
