Does anybody know what paint color code 514 corresponds to in 1973? It's a 1973.5 car if that makes a difference.
The full code is 514-9-3, so it isn't Glasurit paint. Thanks.

Even the experts don't know this one -

516 Sahara Beige in 74 is close to your # so if it is a special order paint might be in that family. My 73S COA says 999 special color to match. But on my paint tag shows 438. I can't find this one any where. My guess is that the factory gave it a # close to the family of colors. My car is a silver gold mix. not as dark as copper diamond 432.

That would seem logical and German, but if you look at any list of all the Porsche factory color codes from any of the paint company search engines, like
http://www.glasurit.com/COLOR/COLOR-Search/
or
http://www.dupontrefinish.com/bowstr..._Com_Home_Page
or
http://www.sherwin-automotive.com/fo...H_TYPE=vehicle
you'll see that there isn't much rhyme or reason to the assignment of code numbers by Porsche.
The Glasurit page does list 514 as being a legit Porsche code, a color called beigegrau metallic, but it can't be right for your car as it is listed as being for 1988-1991 only.
A paint supplier told me the best resource for figuring out obscure codes is to call the PPG Library folks at 1-800-637-8887.

Would PPG know if it was a different brand? I've seen people say that 3 means Herberts was the paint mfg.
Underneath the red paint that a PO put on the car is a really nasty looking goldish color in places - not like any gold I've ever seen on a 911, most of which look pretty good. So maybe it was a paint to order car...
Yes, the manufacturers have or can mix codes from any other manufacturer. The search sites listed have all the codes (with gaps on the older cars), no matter who originally made it. But 541 seems to be an oddball code. My car was originally Herberts paint as well. Herberts was absorbed by DuPont Europe several years ago, so even though it was 35 years ago, my paint code is a cataloged DuPont color. So you might try contacting DuPont as well as the PPG library, but your best bet in this case might be springing the dollars for a COA and see if it tells you anything.....

The number listed above for PPG is a porn number. If anybody has the real # I'd like to get it.
Sounds like someone filed a phone number in the wrong slot in the Rolodex!![]()

Sorry, that was a number given to me by a paint shop a couple of years ago. When I found out DuPont had taken over Herberts I worked through the area DuPont rep and so never had occasion to try the (alleged) PPG number, but still had it in my files. I'm innocent, I swear!
