Thread: eBay Sales History Thread - 911E

  1. #51
    Year: 1972
    VIN Number: 9112210174
    Winning bid: US $10,299.00
    Date sold: Jan-30-07
Notes: "History: Authentic 1972 Porsche 911E Targa. VIN#9112210174. This is a genuine "E" car. Dr. Porsche only made less than 1000 of these units and there are not many of these left. This car is currently registered in CA and has a clean title. This car looks great and drives great. You will get a ton of looks driving this car. This car has had the same owner since 1983, until it was passed off to me.

Exterior: Check out the pictures. This car looks sharp! It boasts a quality paint job, straight body, new reupholstered targa top, RS rear fender flares, 911S front spoiler and vanity plates. Check out the pictures for someone informed me that the right front fender may be from an earlier SWB 911 car. I have also noticed there appears to be a rust spot in the floor (see pic)

Interior: Carpets, headliner and targa top in excellent condition as are the rear seats. There is a crack in the dash. The car has a detachable face stereo that works great. The front seats are from a later year 911.

Engine: Recent rebuild with documents totaling over 10k. I can fax it to you if you like. Modified Weber carbs. This engine runs great and has a lot of power. When the engine was rebuilt they did not use the stock engine. The second gear synchro sometimes grinds but this is because of sport clutch kit and you have to press clutch in all the way.

Wheels: Staggered Fuchs. Tires in good shape.

Overall: This is a unique example of the early 911 and is a blast to own and drive. This car is ready to be driven and enjoyed."

    Year: 1973
    VIN Number: 9113210509
    Winning bid: US $10,607.69
    Date sold: Jan-30-07
Notes: "This 1973 911E Targa has been in stored inside since 1993. The second owner purchased it in 1976, and I recently purchased it from him. The car is remarkably solid. The only rust I have been able to find is a small rust hole in the left side inner rocker panel as shown in the pictures. The front suspension pan, rear torsion bar areas, floors, and the right rocker panel are all very good showing no signs of any rust. The car appears to have been repainted once in it's original color of Signal Orange. The interior is black. The seats will need to be rocovered and the carpeting replaced. The car has a dent in the top of the left front fender where something fell on it during storage. The lower nipple on the oil tank is broken. This was done recently by a careless tow truck operator. I believe it can be easily repaired. This car is very original. It has what appears to be the original engine and transmission. It also has it's original AM/FM Blaupunkt radio, original owner's manual and service book. It also has a partial original tool kit. The spare is a matching original cookie cutter wheel and the front spoiler bumper is the original steel version. The engine turns over free. It has not run since 1993, so this car will have to be trailered. This is a fantastic opportunity to aquire a totally unmolested 1973 911E Targa. It shows no signs of any body damage. It was never winter driven. This car is being sold as is, as shown, with no warranty or guaranty of any kind. You are more than welcome to come and inspect it before the end of the auction. I was told that the odometer reading of 86,288 miles is correct."

    Year: 1972
    VIN Number: 9112210626
    Winning bid: US $9,105.00
    Date sold: Feb-02-07
Notes: "This is a rare euro model 911, imported by G&K Automotive into the U.S. It is for sale based on what the owner has told us and our own visual inspections. His father bought the car in Europe and had the engine replace there by German Porsche techs. It is not the original engine to a 1972 911e, but is a larger, more powerful engine. The build date on the body sticker is February of 1972. The engine number stamp is 6523018. The VIN number matches all of the locations on the body that we inspected. There are some service records from the past 5 years, but none before that. The carriage was done by Kunstharzlak. Original paint code is 330-9-3.

The interior seems mostly original with the exception of the front seats which appear to be from another 70's model, but there are extra seats from the correct era included in the auction. The radio is also gone, replaced with a CD player. The rear seats are in good condition as most are due to the fact that nobody can really fit in them. One door panel pocket on the driver side is missing, the other is a bit warped.

The exterior is in good shape with no signs of collision. The glass is good, but needs new rubber around targa bar. The targa bar is in good shape, the top is nice too, it has only small blemishes but the inside needs re-upholstry.

The paint is fair, but there is some cracking around the rear quarter and some small bubbles in the front of the car by the headlights and hood. Under the cracking (paint removed in one small spot) the body looks fine. It is most likely in need of a good prep and paint job for best results.

The car starts up great and runs strong and fast. Mechanically it seems sound, it does smoke a bit as most of these vintage cars do. The actual mileage is unknown and the gauges don't seem to work precisely. The tires are in great shape. Oil does leak in the garage a few spots here and there.

The pans are O.K. The worst spot being on the driver side front pan where there is rust in one corner (see photos), but the car is in no way a rust bucket. Stand and jump on the pans all you want. The front tow hook is a bit rusted and there is some rust in the front pan. The battery boxes also have some rust. Car comes with spare, jack, and two batteries (not Porsche batteries).

    The Good:

-Vin numbers match in all areas (Front chassis tag, luggage compartment, and build sticker
    -Glass good throughout
    -Rare Euro Model
-Targa top itself in good shape
    -Newer tires
-Fuchs alloys are clean, including spare
-No major dents or scratches in body
    -Jack spurs appear solid
    -Tranny shifts smooth
    -Car drives straight and smooth
    -Paint is decent
-Car appears to be mostly original

    The Not So Good

-Typical oil leaks for older Porsches
    -Seats not original
    -Paint cracks in rear quarter
-Gauges need fine tuning to work properly"

    Year: 1970
    VIN Number: 9110200016
    Winning bid: US $6,801.00
    Date sold: Feb-03-07
Notes: Engine # is 6210036; "This is a complete 1973 911E with 2.4 liter engine, "S" package and hard to find Mechanical Fuel Injection (MFI). This car was my daily driver for a number of years until the MFI started acting up. It sat in the garage for about 8 years, then outside for the past year. I kept thinking I would restore it one day but I have finally come to accept the fact that I'm just too lazy and too poor of a mechanic to do it. I hope to find a better home for this classic beauty with someone who will restore and drive her like she deserves.

Everything on the car worked and passed inspection before I parked it, so all mechanical and electrical parts are there. The body is straight and has never been wrecked as far as I know (I'm the 3rd owner, as far as I know). The only rust is surface stuff that you can see in the pictures. I had the battery pan professionally replaced when I first got the car, and the pan area, trunk and floorboards are all solid. The passenger side sill where the factory jack gets inserted is a bit dented from a screwed up jacking somepoint in the car's life, but I've been told that it does not affect the car in anyway other than cosmetically, and that it can be easily repaired.

Interior-wise, the seats and vinyl have some small blemishes and cuts, but will clean up well and do not need to be replaced. The carpet is also complete and will clean up nicely. I have both factory pockets for the door panels (they sell for $150+ each on Ebay) though they are not installed in the pictures. The Blaupunkt CD player was professionally installed and has a detacheable faceplate.

    Some additional notes:

The person I bought this car from had put on 1974+ mirrors and tail lights, and I put on the original mirror so some drill holes were filled in on the passenger side mirror mount. The real bumper piece you see in the mirror is an original Porsche salvage part, but will need to be straightened out and put on properly.

The wheels are original Fuchs alloy 15", but I painted the centers in a misguided past project. The spare is not a Fuchs alloy, as you can see in the picture of the trunk. The jack is the Porsche factory model, though not the one that originally came with the car."

"I was mistaken about the year. I haven't looked at the title of this car or did anything else with it for almost 10 years, and thought it was a 1973. It is actually a 1970 2.2L, according to the Division of Motor Vehicles, but it does have the "S" package and all other information is correct. I apologize for the mistake. If anyone has a bid that is in effect and wants to retract it, please let me know. On a positive note, this is what Wikipedia had to say about the 2.2L 911E:

"The 2.2L 911E was called 'The secret weapon from Zuffenhausen.' Despite the lower power output of the 911E (155PS) compared to the 911S (180PS) the 911E was quicker in acceleration up to 160 km/h (100mph)."

So, here's your chance to own The Secret Weapon from Zuffenhausen!!"

    Year: 1970
    VIN Number: 9110210104
    Winning bid: US $27,800.00
    Date sold: Feb-20-07
Notes: Engine # is 6200267; "This particular car has only 2 owners and only covered 65.432 miles from new, the last owners, a husband and wife team bought the car back in March of 1997, when the miles were 51.362 and certified true by the original owner.

When was the last time you saw one of these cars with a full set of 5 original finish deep six wheels, the paint, anodising and frosting are as it left the factory, the same can be said for the perfect Factory hood badge?. Period front and rear bumper bars look great and actually allow you to display a front plate.

The detail is on this car is impressive, from the perfect front bumper guard with all filler rubbers in place, to the rear bumper guards which still have the original plastic plugs in them, the rear license plate panel has both rubber seals in place, plus there is a full set of decals. The original toolkit, jack and books also come with this car, new batteries and refurbished and painted gas tank, see pictures. These are the details that make for a nice car and stand out from the others.

The original dash is good with the usual small crack, and the door pockets are all present and in excellent condition, the seats are in great condition with no rips or split seams, the Targa top and headliner are perfect, as are the sunvisors. The carpets have been replaced with a German cut pile and look great.

The body and pans are 100% rust and accident free, with no repairs of any kind, although it was repainted once by the second owners from red to black, this was a total repaint including highly detailed engine and trunk areas, see pictures. The paint is of driver quality, rather than show, and is holding up nicely, there are no stone chips, dents or and only one fine scrath that has hardly gone through the surface paint on the rear passenger fender. The panel fit and gaps are factory correct, and most of the body seals have been replaced. including front windshield, door and front to body seals, etc.etc..

Mechanically the car was given a clean bill of health and pronounced to be "a very nice car", by a respected Independent Porsche shop here in Los Angeles, only the pedal and throttle bushings needed replacement and news batteries were purchased and installed.

The matching numbers engine with it's fabulous E cams starts and runs flawlessly with tremendous power from the original MFI system with magnesium stacks, there is no smoke, even on start up, the engine is dry and quiet, the 5 gearbox has perfect unbeatable synchros clutch is smooth and judder free, and the whole car feels very tight and new.

It is incredibly fast, and will keep up with any S of the period, thankfully the old hydropneumatic front E struts have been replaced with S units including the S alloy brake callipers, which pull the car up smoothly and efficiently.

The A/C has been upgraded to a fully working unit with R 134 and Porsche rotary pump, using the correct Behr underdash unit. The original Blaupunkt radio is fully functional and even has the electric antenna on the passenger side is automatically activated when you turn the radio on, a nice feature."

    Date sold: Mar-07-07
Notes: "This is a Porsche 911E Targa. Engine and transmission have been rebuilt. The front pan needs to be installed. It is missing the front windshield and front fenders. There are five factory Porsche wheels, Targa top, Targa glass, gauges and most of the parts to finish the restoration. There has been extensive chrome plating work done. There are thousands of dollars in mechanical receipts. Very few 911E Targas were produced making this 911 very rare. True mileage is unknown. This car is being sold as is."

    Date sold: Mar-18-07
Notes: "You are bidding on a 1973 911 E 3.0L turbo. The color is a very rare aubergine this color was an option until 1974. The body also has the euro steel fender flares in the rear. The general condition of the car is very good for its age. There is a dent in the rear deck lid and some paint chips here and there ,there is also a little surface rust check pictures.

The interior is in fair shape, there are recaro seats in the front , the drivers seat has wear on the side and will probably want to recover it. The door panels are also in good shape ck pics. The rear seats are showing some age but do not have any rips .The dash has a crack in it ck pics.

The motor is out of an sc # 930.101.104.4r, I think this is the correct# I found it on the right side of the case. The motor and tubo were put in back in the 80's and runs great, it does puff a little smoke when first started but clears right up. There are no noticeable oil leaks, no spots on the floor and no visable leaks from under the car. The turbo is a ray jay and the kit was produced by REH. The injection is cis.

The car is lowered and has new tires[yokahama es100, ft.205-50-15 r225-50-15] on bbs 1 piece wheels.brakes have about 1000 miles on them and steelbraided brake lines have been installed.

All of the shifter bushings have been replaced along with a new shifter coupling and a short shift kit. The car still has a 915 5spd. and does not grind in any gears."

    VIN Number: 119210297
    Winning bid: US $13,103.00
    Date sold: Mar-28-07
Notes: "you are bidding on a 1969 911E Targa. I purchased this vehicle a year ago on ebay and have had nothing but joy from it. The Targa top was recovered and fitted with new insulation and fits perfectly. The front suspention pan has been replaced with brand new metal.(an expensive repair). This was completed in San Francisco before i took posession of the vehicle. The job was done perfectly. The welds are great and the proper undercoatings were applied. The engine is perfectly sound and performs nicely. The original Mechanical Fuel Injection is still installed and working properly as well. (hand throttle is used for cold morning starts) Transmition shifts nicely with no known problems. I've taken this car on many road trips from Los Angeles to Las Vegas as well as up North to San Franciso and back without any problems. I just had another child and my toys must go. A new larger battery was installed to eliminate the smaller 2 batteries the car originally came with. The Fuchs alloys are in great shape as well. The original hydropnumatic suspention was swapped out for later 911SC front components. The car handles perfectly. The black paint is nice and shines when washed. (small chip on hood see photo). the only visible rust bubble under the paint is by the rear window sill which seems pretty common for a car of this age. The car drips some oil as all older Porsches do. Nothing serious though. The interior is in good shape as well. the headrest on the passenger seat has a rip in right corner. The dash is in good shape with only a crack by the speaker and on the grill itself. It also appears that the previous owner added a switch or two on the dash. the only thing that remains is a small hole by the ignition switch. I've installed an aftermarket radio and speakers as well as a small amp and sub which can be removed without damaging anything. (amp is in the front trunk right over the smugglers box) This car is not perfect but is a great runner and looker for it's age. If someone had the time to do little cosmetic things to it (head rest, dash, paint chip, etc..) it would be an amazing Targa."
