The seat rail/tracks on my 73S are looking pretty tired and I would like to refinish them. My car is a european delivery car with sports seats and the tracks are silver. Are they silver cad plated, or something else? Thanks for the help.

The silver plating is called "blue zinc" in Norway, the golden plating "yellow zinc"(most of the original golden parts where yellow cad.) I did mine in "blue zinc" for a few bucks, and they turned out perfect, just like the original silver color. When you take the sliders apart, make sure you do not lose the small plastic gliders inside. I had to drill out a stopper to disemble, then made treads in the stopper later and used a low head bolt to secure the stopper when I put them back together.
The yellow zinc sliders are wrong but a friend did his at the same time as me and insisted on the extra bling!

I hope that is not the reason that Iceland is now the best place on earth to live replacing NorwayThe yellow zinc sliders are wrong but a friend did his at the same time as me and insisted on the extra bling![]()
The US is now number 12. I guess everyone will stop trying to move here now

you are more than welcome, we need some of the American spirit and winning culture in Norway!! Norway is high on the list you mention but that is mostly due to Norway drowning in oil revenues, and the oil and gas party will soon be over. If you look at the latest statistic showing 10 year olds reading skills, Norway are nr. 35 in the western world behind Moldova!!! When I was a kid I lived with my father in S.F. Ca. If I where free to move I think I would go back.

John,
where do you get your plating done?

Hi,
The 73 tilting frames have double locking sliders. They are relatively straight forward to strip down and restore. I powder coat the frames and use clear zinc on the runners and latch mech to match the original finish. For the bolt hardware I use yellow zinc. In case it helps here are a few pics of some frames done recently.

Thanks Alan. I'll post photos when I complete the work. I have a few other things that need re-plating as well.

Alan, Thank you for posting.
I have a set of sport seats in my 73 (factory option). I would assume I also have the 73 tilting frames. My upper frames seem to have the mount locations for the double locking sliders... But only one locking slide and hardware. Curious on why mine seem to be different?
Someone had jammed a CD changer under the passenger seat (since removed). I wonder if they removed the linkage to make that happen? However, the second slide rail has no notches?
Anyone have any ideas?
