Does anyone know what the proper factory finish should be for the rear 4 bolt torsion bar cover for a 73S and was it different for a 73RS? Thanks Ron

Black or gold cad?
I've seen 'em both ways, and I don't know what was original (mine are black but I'm not sure that's correct). I can tell you that the parts manual lists the same cover for all models, including the RS, so you may want to expand your request to include all the 73 models.

73 RS
They were black from the factory, replacement cover from Porsche is now yellow Zinc plated.

FWIW: My '73T had black covers until I rebushed a few years ago. They appeared to be original when i removed them.

Good grief, that is a clean car! And no undercoating? What is it?Originally Posted by RSexS

Yes, black is the correct finish for the covers. Looks like Cees beat me to it. I was thinking of posting photos of the same car (RS 197) as it is very original.Originally Posted by Tom F.

Judging by that one detail in the photo RS #197 must be in amazing condition. Is it a lightweight, and if so was it standard to leave the undercoating off the lightweights? Where is the car?

Tom,
It is a Touring model, but is a homologation Carrera so it recieved only about 2-3 kg of undercoating in the splash area around the wheel wells, muffler skirt and seat panels.
This wonderful car has been and is currently owned by an Early S member, I will let the current owner speak up if he would like to.![]()

Thanks for filling me in. I hadn't meant to ask for specifics about ownership, especially on the Internet. I was mostly wondering what kind of history the car had, and whether it is in private hands or a public collection.Originally Posted by fryardds
