Which short shifter for the 901 gearbox do you guys like? Thinking of putting one in a 70T. Which have you used and do you like it? Thanks, -Scott

Hi Scott,
I purchased a JWest shifter. It has a spring loaded shifter that keeps the shifter in the second and third pattern unless you push or pull it into the first - reverse or fourth - fifth. I have a short ratio five speed 901 built by Peter Dawe in Stroudsberg, PA.

Good luck, Tom
I just ordered a Rennshift shifter from JWest engineering also but have not recieved it as yet...Wevo also have one for the 901 transmission but you'll need a 915 shifter housing also...The Rennshift comes complete, housing and all for about the same price...

Scott-
I would put a 915 factory short shifter in w/ a Seine Systems gate shift kit You can have a nice, reliable, 901 short shifter for less than $300 that way. All you do is remove the reverse gear pawl in the 915 shift housing to make it a 901 shifter (See here..)
I have a 915 SS housing and lever you can have for $125 if you want it, and Sherwood will probably give you a small "Early S Registry" discount on the gate shift kit if you ask him nicely.![]()

+1 Recently did this and was very pleased. So much better than the Weltmeister, they can't even compare.Originally Posted by ttweed

I use the Rennshifter as recommended above. Purchased it from Pelican. Its not cheap, but what a great shifter it is.
Resist cheaping out and buying the "factory short shift" kit. JUNK! The shift lever is so stubby, you have to lean forward to reach it and you lose so much leverage, my wife couldnt drive the car.
