Early 911's came either with or without a radio - if no radio was ordered the car came equipped with a delete plate (part 12), if a radio was ordered it came complete with the fascia plate (part 15) covered in the relevant matching vinyl (basketweave in your case).

Brent, I think that you are referring to a pair of clips that go over the radio posts. These clips came in the factory installation kit, and snap into the radio hole in the dash. Then, the face plate with the vinyl trim is installed over them, and secured by two special nuts. Then, the knobs are installed on the posts. As if all this isn't complicated enough, there is also a special support bracket that holds the radio from the back. I will try to get some photos up later, after it starts snowing and there's nothing to do except look at my car. Now, I'm taking it out for a drive!

    Radio plate

Yes, I agree with Andy, there is a separate plate with basket weave that slides into the channel on the dash. I needed one for my '69S, and called my local used parts guy - he actually had a perfect one lying around and sold it to me for $25! I sold that car but wish I'd kept that radio plate - I had no idea how rare they are!
I just picked up a one-owner '69E sporto "condo-find" - I don't plan to keep the car, but it's painful to look at that original radio sitting prettily in the dash and not be tempted to take it out for my other car!!
