    Interior mirror replacement

The interior mirror on my 70 is loose at the ball joint. What is the method to remove the mirror from the windshield? Is there any risk to the glass?

A windshield replacement tech told me to heat the metal mount until it pulls from the glass. Is this correct?

    Thanks in advance,

Did you try to tighten the fitting up by sliding a narrow slot screw driver up from the bottom of the joint into the tunnel?

    John,

No I didn't try tightening the little screw because the mirror is loose at the ball joint between the mirror and the bracket.

If I loosed the small screw all the way, will the bracket disconnect from the mount? If so, I can just install the replacement mirror and bracket to the mount.

    Rob...

Yes...just remove the mirror from the base as John said and it will come loose from the base mount on the windshield....you can then replace the whole mirror....here is what it looks like disassembled

Careful replacing that screw though. It's a very fine thread and it's super easy to strip out the threads in the mount.
