    Custom color on 65 911

Another question for the color experts.

I have a 1999 fax from Porsche describing the color of my new (to me) 65 as "white grey". I checked the Kardex and the color is indeed listed as weissgrau. The full listing is Lechler Lesonal 70187 and on the next line 676 weissgrau. Does anyone have any idea how I'd find out what this color was? The car is now light ivory or very close to it. I've called Lesonal in the US, and they don't have either of these numbers. They have a color weissgrau, but the color was first used in 1970.

    Thanks in advance,
    Alan

37yearold, wow what a find. That is a great color for the SWB cars.

Thanks very much to you both. I'd like to be more sure that this is the weissgrau that was used on my car. I've contacted Lesonal and they don't have either 70187 or 676 as paint numbers, but they don't have records back to the 60s either. When I found out that my car was a custom color I thought it must have been repainted to light ivory. Looking at the pictures of weissgrau and my car, now I'm not so sure.

    Here's a 190SL in weissgrau.

    Here's my car.

Does anyone know of a place to check Lechler or Lesonal to find out if the numbers on my Kardex are an old color code from them?

Thanks again for the great lead on weissgrau, 37yearold911.

    It does look different.

But, the only way to be sure is to see both cars live in the same light conditions - or a photo of both together in the same lighting.

Another idea - it seems to me (when investigating blues) that the car companies will keep the same name when changing shades of a color - MB and Porsche might have the same name for a slightly different color.

Or different paint manfs. might do the same.

    Good Luck!

My 71 upholstery sampler lists "Weissgrau/White-grey" as a special color No.7676 coupe , 7610 targa.
Its very close to the MB color above, definitly a light grey shade.
Beeing a special color in 70/71, I assume it was possible to order it in 65/66 as well.

Special color "Ivory" No. 4646/4610 is a much warmer white while standard color "light ivory" 1111/1110 is clearly off white.
Both Ivory shades have the feeling of a white color while White-grey 7676/7610 looks like a very light grey base. Hope this helps.
