I say chrome. The difference was that either the cars left the factory with TTG lights in black grills in 72, or the kit sold by the dealer came with black grills in 72. Stock no TTG lights should be chrome in 72 as well as the turn indicators.

John,
There should be no on-going debate .... the black horn grilles & black indicator lens edges where a 1973 model change. Your car is a 1972 model so chrome trim is what it should have.
Check out Eade's "for sale" ad for the correct factory cut horn grilles.
I sold a complete NOS set to M-House in Japan 2 years ago - grilles, brackets, relay, wiring harness & driving lights - all still with original parts stickers in factory packaging.
Must call by & see the progress.
Cheers

I am not aware of any factory horn grilles that were set up for TTG lights that were not chrome. I have a set of that came off my 73 and they are chrome.
Phil
Phil, I've seen a few of the black TTG horn grills for 73 and on but 72 is for sure silver.

I know what you mean - model year '72 vs registered '72 OR before or after Sep '72.
To clarify: we are talking about the "production model" 911 manufactured in 1972 with the external oil filler on the right rear fender. (Because of course there were 'non-production" 911s which also had this feature.
Boy - someone should creat a Wiki-Porschia!!!![]()
How many other marques could have such detailed discussions? Or is that "another can of worms"? That's why we LOVE them!

Phil,
That was the combination I left out, thanks. It was the factory TTG lights that left in chrome in 73 while the others were black. But the attached link indicates that the dealer installed lights were black.

I've owned MANY of the dealer kits for retro fitting the ttg fog lights. All had black cut grills (except for the SWB kits), and all came with a switch with no knob (for some reason). I still have one kit left, and I think their is a part number on the grills, which I'll post once I have a chance to dig the kit out.
cheers,
E
