Hi Mike,
I don't mean to upset you, but you need to change that distributor cap. It should look like this
The cap is fine if your no.1 priority is driving and keeping the lid more closed than open. If however you want to have it concourse correct you will also have to swap the green condensor wire for a yellow one but than the coil needs to be date stamped correct as well.
Just teasing
Richard
Lmao....yous guys. That's a mighty fine lookin piece o porsche porn.

Nice Mike!
There are brown caps available NEW, they aren't bosch, but they are dark enough to please the cognoscenti. I bought one for $10 from eBay.
Save the real bosch cap with the half-moon cutout for the points insulator for the shows!
I have never tried brown shoe dye on an orange cap, they don't have the cutout so they don't really fit unless you cut the insulator in half (which is invisible under the cap, but creates fit issues, and our SWB engines need all the timing accuracy they can get!

I have seen a rectangular label on the Coil as well as the oval. The oval is very 356-looking. See my "Before there was BHKZ thread" for a graphic replica of the rectangular label that can be printed out and glued to a modern coil! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showt...hreadid=252299 That is a modern coil you have there, right? The top should be dark brown, not black, hard to see from the picture, but the shape of the insulator gives it away.

Found a good pic of my original coil.

John or some one else,
when was the change made from the 121006 (David) to 159001 (Mike)? Is that w/ the introduction of the Weber carbs or w/ the MY66?
Thanks
Richard
Yea, I knew the cap is not an original color brown one, and Ed did modify the cap to have the cutout, but I am not THAT retentive..... Either way, an easy change in the future if I choose to do so. This is for my '68 mostly original condition driver, so I just wanted a cast iron in there.
Did you see the condition of my badge? Oh yea.....
Richard, mine is dated 11/65, so wouldn't that be right around the time Webers came?
All good info, thanks for everyone's input!
Taking into consideration a certain time lag I would indeed think that 11/65 and therefore 159001 is for Weber carbs, 907XXX and up enginesRichard, mine is dated 11/65, so wouldn't that be right around the time Webers came?
