Thanks for posting more Dave. I find it really interesting that in some areas the car looks to have more wear on it than 700 miles. The heat exchangers have way more corrosion than I would have expected, the ground cable attached to the right battery looks a bit frayed near the battery post, and the clamps on the flexible fuel hose at the tank look to be more discolored than I would expect. Did the original owner live near the ocean in CA?

    Thank you for the Posts

Dave, with every photo post comes a ton of information. Thank you.

And it points out how much we obsess over the details to get our own cars "right". Don'tcha just love it? Made my day. I'm looking at every detail.

It's hard stepping away from my local concours judging attitude - cuz' those contests use a criteria of evaluation and judgement of only perfect parts and perfectly clean items. We sure are not use to looking at cosmoline covered parts. It re-adjusts your appreciation doesn't it?

    Scott,

A lot of the "corrosion" and "discoloration" that you see is actually cosmolene. The heater boxes had a coat on them. Of course, by 700 miles, the steel pipes would have seen enough heat to fry off the factory coatings and expose them to moisture. Bare steel and 40 years of humidity, you should expect to see a thin layer of surface rust on the pipes.

Interestingly, part of the recommended service intervals was the reapplication of cosmoline to the underside of the vehicle.

Thanks Rick, I"ll hope you can send me some nice detailed pics. Tomorrow I"m going to look for an original 2.2S with only 40k miles at the ono and first original paint. Never restored Italian car. It's nice to compare the cars.
